Your duo of salty sea dogs will go mutts for a stay at this chic coastal cottage. Sitting just a mile from Seahouses’ pet-friendly sands, it has a suntrap patio and garden full of seasonal scents, while inside there’s a choice of social spaces – one with a paw-warming wood burner.
Park and unpack at leisure, leaving doggie essentials in the foyer before heading along the hallway to the lounge. With a bay window to the front and a wood burner for after-dark ambience, this is a room where you can snuggle on the sofa to watch TV with the dogs at your feet. A door leads to the second of your social spaces, a lounge/kitchen diner at the rear of the house. The open-plan layout means pets can stay close whether you’re cooking, chatting over coffee, assembled around the dining table or simply chilling on the sofa; open the doors onto the glass-fronted patio for a sniff of fresh air. A utility room and cloakroom complete the ground floor layout. As the day draws to a close, settle the pups then follow the stairs to find two bedrooms – a king-size and a twin – and a family bathroom. Your living space extends into a lovely rear garden, backed by fields and with a footpath close-by. Unwind on the large patio, fire up the BBQ and let the dogs sniff out the seasonal planting; there’s a lawn they can roll on too.
Let the dogs follow their noses into Seahouses where there’s a drool-inducing choice of inns, eateries and fish and chip shops, and a vibrant harbour where boats land their catch. The gently sloping beach is dog-friendly all year, and well-behaved pets are also welcome on the boats that transport visitors to the wildlife-rich Farne Islands. For further waggy-tailed walks follow the coastal path 3 miles to Bamburgh; the castle grounds are dog-friendly.
