  • A luxury escape, set within a handsome, former school, right in the vibrant heart of Alnwick
  • Relax together in the elegant lounge with its high, vaulted ceiling and original sash windows
  • Carry your cup of real coffee and morning paper out to the bench in your private, lawned area
Property code: OC-COQ58

Once a village school and now a beautifully converted stone cottage, this stylish hideaway sits right in the centre of Alnwick – ideal for couples and small groups exploring Northumberland with a waggy-tailed companion in tow.

Step inside to the impressive open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner – a bright, double-height space filled with character, colour and natural light from the original Georgian windows. Sink into the leather Chesterfield sofa with your four-legged chum at your feet and pop on your favourite show, or gather at the dining table for leisurely holiday meals. The sleek kitchen has everything you’ll need for relaxed cooking, from morning coffee to evening feasts. The retreat offers two luxurious king-size bedrooms, each with its own en-suite shower room. One is located on the ground floor, and the second sits on a private mezzanine where you can stargaze through the skylight before drifting to sleep. Outside, enjoy your own private patch of lawn – perfect for letting your furry friend have a sniff and a potter while you sit out with a cup of tea or a chilled drink. There is also private parking for one car, making coming and going a breeze.

The cottage places you just moments from the town’s cobbled marketplace, independent cafes and artisan shops, while Alnwick Garden and the famous castle (as seen in Harry Potter) are an easy stroll away. The gardens host special dog days throughout the year. With countryside and coast close at hand, you'll have endless walkies options. Head to the sandy sweep of Alnmouth Beach, 4.5 miles away, for shoreline strolls and sandy paws, or wander the waterfront at Amble (9 miles) and soak up the harbourside atmosphere with Fido by your side.

The Novelists Cottage was a joy to stay in. A beautiful and considered conversion with very thoughtful touches all around the property. A wonderful welcome on entering, with beautiful fresh scones and bread and other provisions that were a great and welcome surprise. A perfect touch at the start of a lovely stay. The location of the cottage was ideRead moreal, with the Market Square, shopping, restaurants and great pubs just a stroll away. We felt very 'at home' and the local people we met in the Tanners Arms were just the friendliest and loveliest. Great live music in there too. We tried the food from Mumbai Restaurant, Carlo's and visited Barter Books and Alnwick Garden as well as buying some fabulous crafts and produce at the Saturday market. The quality of the cottage is exceptional and we would highly recommend it to anyone. Thank you to all involved for a wonderful short break. Hide

Novelist's cottage is an unusual, quirky property. The location is ideal and the parking space is a massive bonus. Welcome pack is lovely & well appreciated. Cleanliness was a bit of an issue but we sorted this ourselves without too much effort. We can recommend Adam & Eve for Sunday lunch and also had a lovely evening meal at Efe's.

Beautifully converted building located in walking distance of Alnwick town centre. Great communication from Coquet staff before and during our stay. Lovely welcome hamper for us and the dog. Comfortable beds and tastefully furnished. Would look to return next year.

Lovely cottage, in a central location. Clean and beautifully decorated. Welcome hamper of locally sourced items was a lovely touch. Would definitely look at using Coquet cottages again, especially if all their cottages are of the same standard
