Sitting on the main street in pretty Warkworth, tucked within one of the loops of the River Coque, this charming 18th-century home makes a wonderful base for a holiday with your four-legged friends. Within 200 metres, you’ve got friendly pubs, a lovely art gallery and gift shops to wander around. The local beach, which is dog-friendly all year round, is an easy 1-mile stroll along the riverbank. Amble’s bustling harbour, weekend market and seafood spots are a similar distance. With space for five guests and room for two dogs, it’s a lovely spot for families, friends or couples.
Inside, the cosy lounge centres around an impressive original inglenook fireplace with a wood burner – an obvious snooze spot for tired canines. One step leads down into the bright and spacious kitchen, where the dining table seats six for slow breakfasts or relaxed suppers. Upstairs, the king-size main bedroom has an en-suite shower room, and there’s another king-size room plus a single, with a family bathroom that has a cast-iron bath alongside a separate shower. Outside, dogs can potter safely in the enclosed garden, with a courtyard dining area and a pretty lawn. There’s a handy entry via the rear garden gate – perfect for sandy paws. While you can’t park directly outside, you’ll find parking opposite the cottage or in the village square (150 metres).
When you’re ready to explore, the dog-friendly Druridge Bay (8.5 miles) offers mile after mile of open sandy shoreline with plenty of space for zoomies, while Alnmouth (4 miles) is known for its sweeping beach and colourful village backdrop.
