This elegant townhouse in Helston is ideal for groups of up to six people looking to explore Cornwall’s coast and countryside with three furry companions. Go barking mad with runs on the beach and long walks through delightful woodland, followed by sociable evenings relaxing in the safely enclosed courtyard.
Set over three storeys, the historic house is filled with pops of colour and pattern that create a delightfully welcoming feel. It has some special treats for four-pawed friends, too, in the form of a cute dog nook under the stairs, plus a dog bed and a selection of large crates in the utility room. Humans can unwind in the light-filled lounge, which has a Smart TV. Leading off this space is a bright kitchen/diner, with bar-stool seating for snacks and meals, and cooking equipment that includes a worktop freezer and a microwave. Take the stairs to the first floor to find two inviting double bedrooms, one with views over the street below, sharing a spacious shower room. The final double bedroom is a second-floor hideaway, tucked under sloping ceilings, with lovely views and an en-suite shower room. The enclosed, decked courtyard is perfect for dogs and children to play safely while you dine al fresco or sip a drink at the picnic table on the raised terrace. Do bear in mind that there are steep steps down to the rear gate. Roadside parking is time restricted, but you may use public car parks (chargeable) nearby.
From Helston you can walk through the National Trust’s Penrose Estate, where there’s a cafe that offers free biscuits for canine companions. Stroll to the huge lake at Loe Bar and take the coastal path to Porthleven, 3 miles, where there are excellent restaurants, or Gunwalloe, 5 miles, for its sandy beaches and medieval church.
