Set amid rolling hills close to the South Devon coast, this super-romantic shepherd’s hut is perfect for a pet-loving pair. Enjoy waggy-tailed walks from the doorstep, snooze in the garden hammock or snuggle in front of the wood burner – with no TV or WI-Fi, holidays here are all about switching off from the outside world!
Promising a complete break from the everyday, this beautiful couples’ bolthole stands within tree-lined grounds with sweeping views across the surrounding countryside. Step inside and the scene is devoted to down-time, the bespoke layout including an open-shelved kitchen complete with all the essentials for effortless home-cooking. A fold-away dining table clears the floorspace for your four-pawed pal, and at the other end of the room there’s seating by a wood burner for all-weather comfort. The shower room is surprisingly spacious – freshen up then climb into a king-size bed that’s cleverly tucked into an alcove, popping pup’s bed on the floor beside it so you can all sleep soundly. Recharge your batteries with time in the garden where there are lounge chairs, a hammock and a BBQ/fire pit. The raised deck has bistro-style furniture for alfresco food and drinks, and there’s private parking for two cars so you can come and go at your own pace.
Sniff out the trails across the Dartmoor National Park, just 7 miles distant, or head a similar distance to Dartmouth for strolls around its scenic harbour and historic castle grounds. For sea air and doggy paddles, Slapton Sands (8 miles) has a long shingle and pebble beach that’s pet-friendly all year. Behind, The Ley is a large freshwater lake with nature-rich walks; for longer leg-stretches the South West Coast Path passes close-by.
