An impressive country retreat in Suffolk for 12 human guests and two dogs; it’s a wonderful base for a trip with extended family. You’ll be ideally placed between the Norfolk and Suffolk coast and the historic city of Norwich. This four-bedroom holiday home sits on the southern edge of The Broads National Park, so you can expect scenic waterside walks filled with birdlife and lazy afternoons by the river.
Grand and brimming with rustic character, featuring original stone-flagged floors, a medieval fireplace and a working wood burner. Cook in the spacious, handmade kitchen, crafted by local tradesmen. Relax in the large dining area, or either of the two lounges – one with doors opening onto a balcony with views over Oulton Marsh, and another on the top floor for relaxed evenings with games or TV. Four bedrooms are spread across two floors: on the ground floor, a super-king-size and a twin room each come with their own en-suite; upstairs, two family rooms each include a single bed with a pull-out captain’s bed. A staircase leads up to a double bedroom, both with en-suites. With underfloor heating throughout, it’s a treat for toes and paws alike. Outdoors, dogs can relax in the front lawned garden, while humans will love the elevated balcony with far-reaching views and the generous terrace with outdoor seating and BBQ. There’s private parking for up to six cars.
Embark on one of many walking routes leaving from your front door. For a seaside adventure, head to the seaside town of Lowestoft (3 miles), with a wide sandy beach ideal for a sandy-pawed walk (please check seasonal restrictions). Oulton Broad (1 mile) is a lovely spot for riverside dining. A little further afield, Beccles (10 miles), Southwold (14 miles), and Great Yarmouth (9 miles) are all perfect for day trips with your canine companions.
