Off the beaten track yet close to some of the county’s loveliest locations, this converted barn is the perfect bolthole for a pair of pups and their four favourite folks.
Lap up the views as you drive towards this handsome holiday home – your approach is via the apron of a WWII airfield. Pause to fully appreciate the peaceful setting, then step straight into an open-plan lounge/diner that’s bathed in light thanks to French doors and windows on each side. Inviting sofas sit before a Smart TV, and there’s plenty of space for the pups to stay close when you relocate to the dining suite. The kitchen is sleek and has its own doors onto the garden; open them for a sniff of fresh air as you cook or chat over drinks at the breakfast bar. Settle the dogs then head upstairs where two beautiful bedrooms beckon, one at each end of the landing with a modern shower room between. The master has a king-size bed and a Juliet balcony; the second room has a super-king-size bed which can be made up instead as twins, ensuring the property suits any party of four. Out front, the driveway is edged by lawn and has parking to ease the loading of pups and their paraphernalia. Head into the rear garden and you’ll find a patio, an outdoor kitchen complete with pizza oven and bbq, and a pergola providing shelter for an al fresco dining suite.
A short walk from your doorstep, a visitor centre preserves the memory of Metheringham Airfield. Track more local history with a trip to the city of Lincoln (13 miles), where the cathedral welcomes dogs all year, the castle grounds open to pets on some weekends, and there are canalside walks to sniff out too. Closer to home, Woodhall Spa (6.5 miles) has tree-lined streets and an elegant Edwardian atmosphere; it’s en route to market town Horncastle (13 miles) which sits on the edge of the Wolds.
