Dogs with a return ticket can join you on the 8.5-mile steam train journey through wonderfully scenic countryside to Welshpool. This bustling market town has a great range of eateries and pubs where dogs are welcome. Overlooking the town is the National Trust’s medieval Powys Castle. Seasonal restrictions apply to canine chums, but dogs on leads can join you in the splendid gardens and woodland during the winter months. Beautiful Mid Wales is perfect walking country, and you have two magnificent long-distance trails nearby to explore with your dogs: Glyndwr’s Way (6 miles) and Offa’s Dyke (10 miles).
