Tucked away in a quiet country lane, this former blacksmith’s smithy is perfect for keen walkers and energetic furry friends. The beautifully restored holiday home sleeps four guests, plus two canine companions, and is set in the delightful village of Llanymynech on the English and Welsh border. Both the Montgomery Canal and long-distance Offa’s Dyke trail run through the village and continue through miles of wonderfully scenic countryside. Llanymynech has its own intriguing walk for pets and people to explore in a Heritage Area of historic industrial interest that takes in woodland, wildflower meadows and the canal.
With exposed original beams throughout, the peaceful detached property exudes character and charm. The neat kitchen and dining space leads into the cosy lounge, housing a wood burner inside the magnificent inglenook fireplace, comfortable seating and lovely antique or vintage furniture. The pretty, ground-floor twin bedroom can be made up as a king-size and has an en-suite shower room. Also on this floor is a separate shower room. Upstairs a lovely double bedroom has a private balcony with bistro furniture. Outside, French doors from the lounge open onto a patio with garden furniture beside a little brook. There is private parking for up to 3 cars.
Head to the wharf in Llanymynech during the summer months for a peaceful, 30-minute cruise on a community narrowboat along the Montgomery Canal. Dogs are welcome and go free. Four-legged friends can also join you for an 8.5-mile steam engine ride aboard the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway (10.5 miles), through the beautiful mid-Wales countryside. Explore the ancient market town of Oswestry (7 miles), with plenty of dog friendly places to eat and drink, and interesting independent shops to browse. Pups on leads can go for walkies in the town’s beautiful Cae Glas park and on the spectacular World Heritage Site of Pontcysyllte Aqueduct (19 miles).
