For doggies who love waterside strolls, a trip to this charming cottage in Satterthwaite is bound to be a barking success. It’s set between two of the Lake District’s most iconic lakes (Coniston Water and Lake Windermere, both around 8 miles), making it a brilliant base for exploring Cumbria with your canine companions. With space for up to eight guests, and two dogs welcome, it works well for a trip among extended family or pet-owning friends.
This traditional cottage has oodles of old-world charm, starting with the lounge which has squishy sofas and a toasty wood burner where tired pups can curl up after wet and muddy outings. The sociable kitchen/diner has gorgeous garden views. The first of four bedrooms is on the ground floor, a stylish king-size with its own en-suite, great for anyone wanting to avoid stairs. Upstairs are two lovely doubles, a twin room and a bright family bathroom. Outside, the enclosed walled garden has a grassy lawn for morning zoomies, plus a patio with seating for relaxing while your dogs potter about. On-road parking is available at the front of the cottage, though spaces are subject to availability.
The local pub is just 170 metres away – fab for refuelling after a day of satisfying walkies. Grizedale Forest (3 miles) is great for four-legged friends with energy to burn, with scenic trails galore. Spend your days wild swimming or boating on the lakes, and make sure you venture into Windermere town (13.5 miles) for independent shops, cafés and a whole lot of Cumbrian charm.
