This 17th-century stone cottage sits 150m from iconic Wainhouse Tower and comes with drool-inducing views of the Calder Valley. Inside, period features blend effortlessly with contemporary essentials to create a welcoming retreat for one well-heeled pet and his favourite people. Explore the industrial heritage of Halifax or head off for waggy-tailed walks on The Calderdale Way. Set within a terrace of former dye works cottages, this handsome holiday home has stylish rooms with high ceilings, exposed beams and an ancient mullioned window. Step inside and the light-filled lounge/diner features a parquet floor, restored-pine doors and an inglenook fireplace. Let your pet warm his paws before the wood burner-effect gas fire while you settle in front of the Smart TV for some home-style entertainment; there’s a choice of comfortable seating, including a sofa that converts to a bed if you’re a party of three. A traditional dining suite overlooks the garden; the tavern on your doorstep serves up tasty meals from scratch but your own kitchen – accessed via a small vestibule and two steps – has all the self-catering essentials. When you’re ready for bed, stairs lead up to the first floor where the landing has a desk and space for a travel cot. From here, the super-king-size bedroom – which can be made up as a twin on request – has an ornamental Victorian fireplace and valley views. Completing your convenience is a sleek family-style bathroom. Enjoy fresh air in a choice of outdoor spaces. A door from the kitchen leads into a stone courtyard, while at the front of the property the suntrap garden has seating at each end, hedges on both sides, and Yorkshire stone paving complemented by pretty flower beds.

Famous for its industrial heritage and boasting a thriving food and drinks scene, Halifax has many must-see sites including its Georgian Piece Hall and, just a stroll from your doorstep, the world’s tallest folly: Wainhouse Tower. Tackle the 369 steps to the viewing gallery at the top and you’ll get a breathtaking panorama of the town and its surrounds. For a more pet-friendly challenge, the Calderdale Way is a 50 mile walk which encircles Halifax, Hebden Bridge, and Todmorden. A vibrant arts vibe awaits among the cobbled streets of Hebden Bridge (6.5 miles), while Haworth – home of the Bronte sisters – is 11 miles.
