For a coastal Scottish break among friends and pets, stay at this characterful holiday cottage deep in the Highlands. You’ll be in the charming village of Avoch, with its rich fishing heritage, traditional atmosphere and idyllic location next to the Moray Firth. The three-bedroom home makes a fantastic base for dog-loving families or groups of friends keen to explore the Black Isle.
Inside, the cottage is decorated with a nautical theme to celebrate the local area. After coastal walks, unwind in the cosy lounge, keeping chilly feet and paws warm by the roaring wood burner. The kitchen/diner has elegant grey units and a circular dining table positioned next to a charming exposed stone wall. One of the two king-size bedrooms is downstairs too, along with a contemporary family bathroom. Head up to find another king-size bedroom and a snug double, both with charming sloping ceilings. Outside, the large, enclosed garden is safe for canine guests to stretch their legs while you sit back and enjoy the sea air. Parking for three cars is available opposite the cottage, just across a small access road – do keep an eye out for passing cars or cyclists as you step out.
There are so many excellent walks nearby: Chanonry Point (2 miles) is famous for its dolphin sightings, while the scenic stroll to Fortrose (2.5 miles) along the disused railway line is ideal for a leisurely stroll with sniffy pups. Rosehaugh Estate (1.5 miles) is another fab option, with peaceful woodland trails and stunning views. History seekers will no doubt favour the pretty route up to Ormond Hill (1 mile), which gives you the chance to explore the site of an ancient castle. For a little more magic, head to Rosemarkie (3.5 miles) and discover the Fairy Glen Falls – a picturesque forest walk that’s sure to set tails a’wagging.
