The period cottage is located in the peaceful hamlet of Santon Bridge and is a fantastic base for humans and hounds who love to get outdoors and embrace nature. You’ll have some amazing dog-walking routes from your front door – including to Irton Pike (1.5 miles) – as well as some more challenging hikes further afield, such as Scafell Pike (8 miles). The property sleeps four guests and one furry chum and is perfect for small families. The cottage boasts far-reaching views across open fields to the mountains and has a delightful enclosed garden where woofers and children can play.
Enter the cottage via the utility room, where you can store your muddy boots, coats, and dog lead. From here, move into the spacious kitchen/diner which features exposed beams and original brickwork, giving it an authentic ambience. After dinner around the built-in table, retire to the characterful lounge to read a book in the armchair, whilst Rover dozes on the rug in front of the wood burner. Upstairs, discover two double bedrooms. A step leads down to the family bathroom. Outside and across the lane, you’ll find an enclosed garden with a lawn and a bench for al fresco dining.
If you and the hound have a head for heights, why not take on Scafell Pike? As England’s highest mountain, the climb to its summit is quite a challenge, but you’ll be rewarded with spectacular panoramic views across the National Park. The rambling grounds of Muncaster Castle (5.5 miles) are a haven for hairy hounds. They can sniff and explore to their hearts’ content, up and down hillsides and through ravines. Afterwards, enjoy a picnic on the lawn in front of the castle.
