The period cottage is located in the charming village of Portinscale, just outside Keswick. The area is awash with walking routes to explore with your furry companion, from waterside strolls at Derwentwater (0.5 miles) to exhilarating fell climbs at Catbells and The Coledale Horseshoe (both have trails leading from the village). The cosy cottage welcomes four guests and one pup and is ideally suited to a small family with a love of the outdoors. The cottage has two pretty outdoor areas and a warming wood burner to snuggle in front of at the end of the day.
The cottage has been decorated in neutral tones, with flashes of burgundy and exposed woodwork bringing warmth to each area. Period features can be spotted throughout the property, such as the magnificent exposed beams. With its roaring wood burner and plump sofas, the lounge/diner is a warm and inviting space to relax in the evenings, watching a film on the TV/DVD, whilst Rover curls up on the rug. There are two stylish first-floor bedrooms: a chic double and a bunk bedroom that’s perfect for children, due to the restricted head height. Outside, there are delightful seating areas at the front and the rear of the cottage, meaning you can follow the sunshine throughout the day. There’s also a handy hose to clean up muddy paws.
Just over 0.5 miles away is Nichol End, where you and your furry sidekick can board the Keswick Launch to glide across Derwentwater. The vessel stops at various jetties, so you can hop on and off to enjoy a peaceful stroll along the water’s edge or a picnic on one of the pebble beaches. Mirehouse and Gardens (5 miles) makes a great doggy day out. Wander through the 17th-century gardens and woodlands, before refuelling in the dog-friendly cafe.
