Dating back over 300 years, this beautiful and traditional cottage has been tastefully updated to provide cosy and welcoming accommodation for a family or a group of friends looking for an idyllic spot in the Lake District. The cottage is set in stunning surroundings just a mile north of the breathtaking Esthwaite Water. With plenty of space for seven guests – and room for three dogs as well – this is a wonderful holiday base for exploring the idyllic landscapes between Windermere (3.5 miles) and Coniston Water (5.5 miles).
The characterful tiled hallway leads through to the spacious and inviting kitchen/diner. With exposed ceiling beams and a welcoming wood burner, the lounge is a lovely space to relax in. You can share your favourite meals in the attractive dining area, and the light and stylish kitchen is a pleasure to cook in. There’s also a delightful children’s playroom with a range of toys, games, books and an additional TV/DVD. The bathroom, with a relaxing spa bath, can be found up a short flight of stairs. Four cosy and restful bedrooms are upstairs; a twin, a single and two king-size rooms (one with en-suite shower room). The sloping garden leads down to a stream with a small waterfall which is ideal for paddling – children should be supervised. There’s plenty of space for dogs to run, and steps lead up the garden to a beautiful Lakeland stone terrace which surrounds the cottage.
The pretty village of Hawkshead (1 mile) has several excellent dog-friendly pubs and is close to a number of fantastic dog-welcoming walks and attractions. Nearby are the Lakeland Motor Museum (10 miles), the grounds at Wray Castle (2.5 miles) and Claife Heights (5 miles). You can also explore Grizedale Forest (3 miles) and the village of Near Sawrey (2 miles), the former home of Beatrix Potter.
