Nestled in a tranquil position close to the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake, this charming cottage is ideal for friends or small families who want to explore the northern Lake District with their four-legged friends. As well as the wetlands nature reserve at Bassenthwaite Lake, complete with nesting ospreys, the area boasts lots of stunning scenery, including Dodd Woods, and the historic house and gardens of Mirehouse, which are both within a mile. Despite the rural location, the shops, eateries and range of outdoor activities in the popular ‘adventure capital’ of Keswick are only 4 miles away.

Beautifully restored, original features blend effortlessly with contemporary fixtures and fittings in this delightful cottage. Light tones make it feel bright and spacious throughout, whilst exposed beams and original fireplaces add charm. With a wood burner-effect electric fire for colder evenings, the lounge is comfortable and cosy, whilst there is ample dining space for everyone once you’ve cooked up a storm in the well-equipped kitchen. On the first floor, there are two gorgeous bedrooms: a king-size and a single (with additional bed available) . Please note that this rooms has a sloping ceiling. A good-sized modern bathroom completes the accommodation. Outside, there’s a large grassy garden where dogs and kids can let off steam.

Popular with visitors and their canine companions, the northern Lakes have such a rich and varied landscape. As well as more leisurely lakeside walks, guests looking for more of a challenge are well-placed to take on the lesser-known northern ascents of Skiddaw (2 miles) and Blencathra (10 miles). You could also start your day with an atmospheric amble to the historic Castlerigg Stone Circle (6 miles) or perhaps you’d prefer a woodland adventure at Whinlatter Forest Park (7.5 miles). Keswick also has lots of rainy-day options, such as the Derwent Pencil Museum, or you can enjoy a day out at the Lake District Wildlife Park (4.5 miles).

  • 2 bedrooms – 1 king-size, 1 single (additional folding bed available for the single room on request - linen is not provided for the folding bed)
  • Cottage is comfortable for 2 adults due to the sloped ceiling in the single bedroom but does have capacity to sleep 3 and 1 child
  • 1 bathroom with shower over bath and WC
  • Electric oven and hob, fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher, air fryer, washer/dryer
  • Electric fire
  • Smart TV
  • Wi-Fi included, due to the rural location the connect ion can be slow.   It is suitable for emails and social media, but may not be adequate for streaming. Also the thickness of the 18th century internal walls mean that internet is only available downstairs.
  • Partially enclosed garden
  • Parking for 2 cars in shared car park
  • Please note that there is no footpath from the cottage nor direct access to the lake
  • Two shared electric vehicle charging points available for no additional charge
  • Complex of properties
  • Pub 1.5 miles
  • Mirehouse and Gardens 0.5 miles
  • Keswick 4 miles
  • Please note there is restricted head room in the single bedroom and it may not be suitable for taller guests
  • Electric vehicle charging on site
  • This property will be decorated for Christmas
  • Arrival: 16:30 onwards
  • Departure: before 10:00
  • 1 dog allowed. Additional charges may apply

Location is great but it is by a main road so expect a little bit of noise on and off off from the odd bit of passing traffic. Also if you are planning and watching television then you might have issues with iPlayer etc. due to the broadband speeds are less than 3 megabits.

We had a brilliant few days at Forest View. It was a return visit as we love the cottage and location so much. A perfect sized cottage, big enough to have space while small enough to maintain the cosy cottage feeling! We all absolutely loved it, clean comfortable and a really well equipped kitchen, big garden with great views. Maybe loose a few cushions off the sofas.

Just so so happy with everything. Our stay couldn't have gone better and we actually got attached to the cottage in such a short space of time. Loved it and didn't want to leave!

Very warm and comfortable and clean cottage on the outskirts of Keswick set in a beautiful location. The only downside was its proximity to a busy main road which made it difficult to walk/run straight from the cottage

A lovely cottage with character that is presented to a high standard. Good location, with lovely views of the lake and wood but it is beside a road. Great for dogs including a lovely garden with seating for the evening sun but dogs need to be supervised as it is not fully enclosed. Definitely a lovely place to stay for a holiday.

This cottage is spacious and well equipped with a lovely garden and ample parking. Charming comfortable cottage. There is no back access to the garden so you have to use the front door and go round the side. If your dog is young or doesnt heel you would have to put it on a lead as the road is very close.

Really well presented cottage, all the rooms are lovely and the kitchen is well stocked. The EV charger takes the stress of an electric vehicle away and gives peace of mind. Be nice if the garden was properly enclosed, but a long lead covers that. TV reception could be resolved.

Good location, not far from Keswick with plenty of parking. Not that easy to get out onto the road, as it is quite busy and fast moving in the daytime. Good location if you want to be close to Keswick with parking and a good size garden for the dog. Comfortable for 2 people but the second bedroom would only be suitable for children as you can only stand up in the middle bit. Brilliant that it has a car charger available to use.
