It’ll be wag-tastic adventures all round with a stay at this bright and welcoming countryside lodge. The stylish home is tucked away in a quiet part of Ruby Country, making it a brilliant base for tail-wagging walks and outdoor adventures with extended family. While the area is lovely and rural, you’ll only be 6 miles from the market town of Holsworthy, where you can pick up supplies and stop for a pub lunch. And for long, doggie hikes taking in rugged terrain, lush valleys, granite tors and ancient ruins, Dartmoor National Park starts just 13.5 miles south-east.
All on one level, the lodge has a fresh, open-plan design that’s easy for your group to settle into. Following a day of exploring, after tasty meals gathered around the large dining table, it’s a pleasure to flop down in the comfortable lounge with your furry friend at your feet. Or if you’re feeling competitive, the dining table can be converted to play table tennis, pool or table football. You’ll have three lovely bedrooms: one double with an en-suite shower room, a cheerful twin (which can be made into a king on request), and a spacious family room with a double bed and bunk beds – fab if you’ve got kids in tow. A stylish shared family bathroom completes the inside space. Outside, dogs will adore the large lawn for zoomies and ball games, while the humans can unwind on the patio with a BBQ meal or sink into the private hot tub. Private parking is available for up to five cars.
Nearby, the traditional market town of Okehampton (13.5 miles), nestled in the national park’s northern foothills, is lovely for a sniff around before heading out into the wilderness. Or, for coastal adventures, drive west to Bude (15 miles) to enjoy dog-friendly beaches including Northcott Mouth Beach. Roadford Lake (14 miles) is a top spot for waterside walks and wildlife-watching.
