At this turreted Edwardian mansion perched above the River Tweed, a luxurious world awaits you and your furry friends. The grand retreat, located in the scenic borderlands and set in shared estate parkland and woodland, has space for up to 16 human guests and three doggies. You’ll be 6 miles from Galashiels and Selkirk, each with cosy pubs and handy shops, and 8 miles from Melrose whose ancient abbey ruins are well worth sniffing out.
This spectacular accommodation has a look fit for royalty, with a regency-style decor, high ceilings and gigantic windows. On the ground floor, there are a multitude of charming period rooms including a morning room, a dining room, a library, and a drawing room with a baby grand piano. When you’ve been out in the fresh air all day, cosy up by one of the open fires or enjoy some tunes through the Alexa Smart Speaker system. On the lower ground floor, your group and pets can spread out comfortably in the cinema, games room, gym, children’s playroom and table tennis room. A family kitchen on the ground floor, and a high-spec catering kitchen on the lower-ground floor offer options for cooking up large meals. There are six bedrooms in total: on the first floor, set around a galleried landing, you’ll have a king-size with an en-suite shower along with three super-king-size rooms – one with a four-poster bed and bathroom, and a second with a dressing room and en-suite (including a roll-top bath). This has a kids' room with trundle beds attached to it – great for families. Head up one more flight of stairs to find a family room with a super-king-size zip-and-link bed and two singles, plus a separate twin room. A family bathroom and a shower room serve the top floor. Outside, the two-acre, fully enclosed walled garden is a dog’s dream, with wildflower patches, open lawns for games and even the romantic ruins of the Old Fairnilee House to discover. The terrace is all ready for BBQ dinners, while energetic guests can make the most of the badminton and croquet equipment. There’s ample parking for multiple vehicles, and storage available in the garage for bicycles, outdoor equipment etc.
When it’s time for long dog walks, step right onto the Southern Upland Way, which runs right through the estate. Fishing fans can cast a line for salmon or trout in the River Tweed, 200 metres from the house. In the surrounding towns, historic sites, local eateries and independent shops are all in abundance.
