Alternatively, retire to either the timber-framed conservatory to admire the river, the games room to enjoy the bespoke bar area or the cosy ambience of the snug. There are four sophisticated bedrooms on offer upstairs, one en-suite super-king-size with floor-to-ceiling glazing and a small balcony, one en-suite king-size with more glorious sea views, one double and one twin; sumptuously, soft linens ensure a peaceful rest, dreaming of tomorrow’s walkies. Outside, enjoy the sights of bobbing fishing boats from the comfort of the large, enclosed patio and Mediterranean-inspired veranda before heading down the steep steps onto the small beach below. There’s private parking for one car nearby (it’s not possible to drive right up to the house, but there is a nearby drop-off point for unloading).
Clinging to the hillside, the village of Polruan boasts a maze of narrow streets that even your canine companion will fall in love with. Sail across the harbour on the ferry to Fowey (4.5 miles) with your pup in tow, to peruse its independent shops, cafes and restaurants. Breathe in the salty sea air as you wander along the estuary. Follow the coast path to nearby Lansallos Beach (3 miles), a hidden cove ideal for practising the doggy paddle.
