  • Ready for al fresco evenings, the living space extends through bi-fold doors to an impressive patio
  • With a thrilling, bohemian history, this house was once home to Charles Rennie Mackintosh
Property code: OC-M30723

This stunning property was the home of architect and painter Charles Rennie Mackintosh between 1914-1915 where he painted a series of flower watercolours, prints of which are dotted around the house. The property has been renovated into a luxurious and well-thought-out place to stay. Set in the former fishing picturesque village of Walberswick, the accommodation offers an incredible base for groups of family or friends wanting to explore Suffolk’s delightful coastline. Walberswick Beach (200 metres) is a favourite with dog walkers, and the peaceful dunes and shingle shoreline pose a wonderful setting for a picnic. Walberswick also has a pub and a gastro pub and is famous for crabbing for people of all ages. Elsewhere on the Suffolk coast, explore the National Trust-maintained beauty spot of Dunwich Beach (6 miles) and the RSPB Minsmere (8.5 miles). Southwold (1.5 miles) can be found just across the River Blyth (a great spot for crabbing!), with regular passenger ferries offering crossings throughout the peak season, Once in the town, you can walk along Denes Beach and onto the parade, passing the famed lighthouse as you reach the pier (2 miles).

Offering large, light-filled rooms, immaculate decoration, and prints from the former resident, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, this appealing accommodation is sure to impress. Step inside, past the downstairs WC, and into the main kitchen/diner. This space is set up for entertaining, with Starlink broadband.  A bespoke kitchen, a dining table that seats 10, and everything you’d need for a dinner party, including a wine fridge. From here, continue through to the large lounge. Comfortable seating options, a large 72" Smart TV, and a wood burner are all set to make your evening spectacular, with the option of throwing open bi-fold doors when the sun shines. Just off the lounge, is a convenient second kitchen/utility room. This smaller kitchen has everything you need for effortless al fresco dining just a few metres from the patio. Also through here you will find a refreshing shower room. When it’s time for bed, discover five marvellous bedrooms spread across the first and second floors. On the first floor, a king-size en-suite bedroom with Smart TV and DVD player, a twin zip-and-link bedroom (can be made into a king-size on request at time of booking) and two cosy doubles. You’ll also find the master bathroom here, complete with a bath and separate shower. Moving up to the loft, the final bedroom is an inviting double with a dedicated shower room just next door.

The big, beautiful garden is truly impressive and boasts a furnished patio, a large lawn, and a bike rack for secure outdoor storage. You can sit at the table and raise a glass, enjoying a delicious dinner prepared in the designated kitchen; or you can put your feet up on the sun loungers when the weather is wonderful. Millside was perfect for our family get-together. The enclosed back garden was wonderful for the grandchildren and the bifold doors between the living room and the patio made a huge space for them to play. The large dining kitchen was just perfect for family dinners and games night. The property also had the largest tv we had ever seen
