This rural retreat enjoys a peaceful location in the Kent countryside, 2 miles from the charming village of Woodchurch. The cottage sleeps four guests and two pups, and makes a wonderful couples’ retreat or base for a small family. Discover a whole host of footpaths and walking trails directly from your front door or hop in the car to explore the beautiful High Weald National Landscape, just 4 miles away. Take a doggy day out to one of the nearby vineyards or spend a relaxing afternoon pottering around the National Trust’s Sissinghurst Castle Garden (11 miles).

The detached home is Grade II listed and dates back to the 16th century. Period features can be admired throughout the property, including exposed beams and brickwork and fabulous tiled floors. At the heart of the home is a welcoming lounge, with vibrant soft furnishings and a roaring wood burner set in an original brick fireplace. Relax here after a long dog walk, reading a book or catching up on your favourite programmes on the Smart TV. The country-style kitchen has everything needed to cater for the group, as well as ample space to set up the dog beds. Come together in the dining room, with its striking tiled floor and beamed ceiling, to host dinner parties and family celebrations. An elegant bathroom with a roll-top bath rounds off the ground floor. Cottage-style stairs, hidden behind a door in the dining area, lead to the first floor and the two characterful bedrooms, both of which feature antique-style furniture and sumptuous linens. Completing the accommodation is a study, should you need to catch up on emails whilst away. Outside, an impressive garden awaits, with mature trees and a large lawn where the pups can play. There’s also a cute patio area with furniture for al fresco dining. Within the grounds is an unfenced pond, so children and dogs should be supervised at all times. The property has private parking for two cars.

The historic town of Tenterden is 4 miles away and boasts a wonderful collection of independent shops and eateries, many of which welcome four-pawed visitors. After a spot of retail therapy, why not hop on the steam trains of the Kent and East Sussex Railway for a majestic jaunt through the surrounding countryside? The pretty village of Rye (12.5 miles) is a must for the itinerary, with its chocolate-box cottages and fabulous artisan shops. The pups will be in their element at Camber Sands (16 miles), charging along the 5-mile beach and scampering around in the dunes.

Fabulous cottage and the garden (and pond) are wonderfully rustic. Perfect for our Quiet couple of days away. Great country walks around there too, with one footpath starting just next to the driveway.

We enjoyed staying at this charming old cottage. It was clean and the beds were comfortable but be aware that the bathroom and toilet is at the other end of the house from the upstairs bedrooms. Kindling, matches and firelighters would have been nice to help light the wood burner as the evenings were still very chilly at the beginning of May. TRead morehe location was amazing. Very tranquil with amazing public footpaths and a chance to listen to nightingales on the nearby Boldshaves estate where you can sign up for a guided walk in May when the birds are actively seeking a mate. A lovely cottage set in an idyllic countryside location. The property has loads of character and is very cosy (especially with the woodburning stove). The kitchen is bright and well equipped, and the beds extremely comfortable. The garden is large and teeming with wildlife, with rural walks on the doorstep. It is only a short drive to Rye, TenterRead moreden and Dungeness, with historic houses and gardens nearby to visit, and Vineyards at Woodchurch, Oxney And Tillingham. We will definitely book Boldshaves Cottage again, and are already looking forward to another holiday there. Hide
