A beautiful property in a beautiful location. Perfect for visiting interesting local market towns and historical spots, with some great walks not too far away, however, it is clear that some farmers don't like the fact that public footpaths run through their fields...missing footpaths, signs removed, fences, walls and hedges blocking entrance to fRead moreootpath (in some cases with the footpath sign still there pointing at an impassable hedge), and a field of inquisitive cows are some of the obstacles we had to overcome. But the cottage was always a pleasure to come home to. Hide

Lovely property, gorgeous garden for the dog and to sit in the sunshine. Big enough for two adults and two teenagers to enjoy for a long weekend. For those with nervous or reactive dogs, the garden is fully secure but there are some gates between the cottage and next door so pups may see other people/dogs.

My wife and our two dogs had a lovely week-long stay at the Ploughmans cottage. Primarily booked as a dog walking holiday. The cottage is spacious due to a recent renovation and the kitchen is well equipped. The owners have thought of everything; they even had a sewing kit, provisions for the dogs and blankets for chillier evenings. We arrRead moreived to a lovely welcome basket, including a pint of milk in the fridge. We were able to book a Tesco delivery slot, which worked well. The main supermarkets of choice are all reasonably close in Whitchurch (10 minute drive away), but there is a local Premier in Preese to cater for quick top up shopping too. The cottage is located near the A49 which is a good connecting road to surrounding areas. It is remote with only another linked cottage, so if you have chatty dogs like us, it is a relief knowing we wont upset too many people. Although the location is fairly remote, theres a lot of heavy traffic off of the B5065 which was a little noisy at times, probably only noticeable as we had the windows and doors open all the time. The garden is large and enclosed. If you have little dogs theres another panel you can attach to the gate to prevent any absconders! The dogs loved roaming and sniffing. Theres a small wrap around garden at the rear of the property which has a gate linking a back alley to the neighbouring cottage and road. Although there were no immediate walking routes to follow from the cottage, these were easy to pick up a short distance away. We trekked easy/moderate routes from 5k to about 8k, so if helpful, here are the links but a little bio below for our favourites: https://www.outdooractive.com/en/r/324821608?share=%7E3zyalbfm%244ossbzzb&utm_source=unknown&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=user-shared-social-content https://www.outdooractive.com/en/r/324926355?utm_source=unknown&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=user-shared-social-content https://www.outdooractive.com/en/r/325332169?share=%7E3zc7fcit%244ossehd4&utm_source=unknown&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=user-shared-social-content https://www.outdooractive.com/en/r/325050916?utm_source=unknown&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=user-shared-social-content https://www.outdooractive.com/en/r/325109181?utm_source=unknown&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=user-shared-social-content We particularly enjoyed our visit to Hawkstone Park Follies which was only a couple of miles away. The dogs loved it, lots of sniffs and interesting trees and historical monuments, a cave and stunning views from a high point and optional tiny Swiss bridge to cross if youre brave enough. Due to the steep walls and steps I would not recommend this site if your party have any mobility concerns. Although the carpark is free, entrance is 10.50 per adult. We enjoyed Corbet Wood and Grinshill which was predominantly forest offering a stunning view point if you head up to the tumulus. Free carpark. Another favourite was Pontesbury, where we trekked through open access land but part of the route lies within private land (with livestock), the owner kindly offers access to walkers to pass through and enjoy the beautiful waterfall! You dont need to follow this route to access the waterfall, you can park in a public car park and walk a short distance instead. We started the route at the pub (The Nags Head) and politely checked permission with the landlady with full intention to eat afterwards. Naturally, we factored pubs into most of our treks. All offered outside dining and welcomed dogs. The food and host were particularly wonderful at The Nags Head, Pontesbury. We visited the Tilley Raven in Wem and the Bull & Dog, Whitchurch, Coton. We also had a take out from Bluewater in Whitchurch. Everywhere we went offered huge portions, far bigger than were used to where we live! All in all, a wonderful week and were likely to return. Thank you. Hide

The cottage was not clean with dog hair on the furniture downstairs and in the bedroom, floors were dirty and rug smelled strongly of dog. Needed decorating, maintenance issues need tending too. The brochure does not show the property as it really is. Would not recommend this property unless all the issues are addressed
