For countryside-loving dogs who just can’t resist walkies through unspoilt nature, stay at this gorgeous retreat just 5 miles from the Peak District National Park. It’s in a pretty stone building in a tiny village called Span Carr, just 4.5 miles from the historic town of Chesterfield. With space for four guests over three bedrooms, this dwelling would suit a small family or a group of friends who adore the great outdoors.

On arrival, step inside the glass doors to discover a graceful open-plan living area comprising a lounge, kitchen and diner. The decor is cheerful and welcoming, with splashes of colour and local artwork peppering the walls. You’ll have a three-seater sofa, an armchair and a Smart TV for evening relaxation, and plenty of rug space for your pooch to stretch out. The compact yet fully equipped kitchen includes a handy breakfast bar for perching with wine. Downstairs, you’ll have a comfortable double bedroom along with a family shower room and separate WC just across the hall. The two additional single bedrooms are upstairs under the eaves, each accessed by separate staircases. Outside, relax on the spacious patio which merges with the countryside – excellent for doggie exploration. A stylish outdoor seating area and a BBQ corner set you up for tasty feasts and plenty of fresh-air lounging. There is private parking for two cars.

You’ll be surrounded by scenic walks and dog-friendly activities – set off for a leisurely stroll around Press Manor Fishing Lakes (1.5 miles) or venture into the Peak District, filled with countless trails and beauty spots that both humans and dogs will appreciate. Be sure to spend a day in Chesterfield, with its iconic crooked spire, bustling town centre, quaint dog-friendly pubs, shops and eateries. Nature spots like Ashford in the Water, Lathkill Dale and Monsal Head Viaduct are all within 13 miles, making this an excellent base for outdoor excursions with your pet in tow.

We had the most amazing and peaceful stay. The cottage is cosy and feels like home from home. The hosts are very welcoming and nothing its too much trouble for them. Would love to come back.

Lovely cottage,we stayed in winter unfortunately the heating was inadequate downstairs. Take your own fan heater/s for the lounge diner in winter. Owner provided a convector heater which made a huge difference.

What a fantastic cottage in a fantastic location. We had a wonderful stay here. On arrival there were wine and chocolates which was a lovely touch. The property is beautifully decorated throughout, comfortable and everything thought of including outside BBQ and wood burner. Beautiful views and located ideally for exploring the Peak District. Lovely welcoming owners.

The 2 single bedrooms were perfect for our 4 and 7 year olds, and theres lots of space outside for them to run around. The owners are very helpful and approachable. The space is decorated beautifully and was very clean. As the kitchen is compact, you couldnt cook a big meal or a sit down dinner but worked just great for oven cooked pizza for dinnerRead more and toast and boiled eggs in the morning! Lovely quiet location with everything we needed for a weeks stay. Very central to get to tourist spots. Lisa and Paul were very friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed our stay. The cottage is very clean and comfortable. There is a birds nest (wrens) in the small tree just outside the door, they like to be fed seeds. Lovely to watch

Three of us had a great girls' weekend at The Windmill Gallery, which we used as a base for some cycling and hiking. The compact, quaint cottage has such beautiful countryside to enjoy on the doorstep. The cottage is well equipped, tastefully decorated, spotless and has very accommodating owners. What a gem of a find. A lovely, cosy home for our weekend exploring the Peak District. The granary is in an ideal location for all the sights. It was very comfy and had everything we needed for our long weekend away. We will definitely be back.

The cottage was extremely clean. It had all the facilities you need for a comfortable stay. The bedding was of high quality and the extra touches of the welcome pack was a treat. The location is central to visiting Bakewell, Matlock and many other places. Will definitely be returning.

We really recommend this cottage! Set in a beautifully peaceful location, it was an ideal place from which to explore the area around Matlock and beyond. When we arrived, the cottage was easy to find and with modern decor throughout, it was really comfortable and cosy!
