Escape with your special someone to this pretty period cottage in Newton of Falkland. Sleeping two people in one bedroom and welcoming two canine companions, it’s perfect for romantic couples in search of a quirky detached cottage to call home while they discover central Scotland together. Spend happy days walking your pups in Lomond Hills Regional Park, and in the evening, come home to your blissful retreat to share some wine and watch the stars come out in your private enclosed garden.

Pull into your private parking spot (there’s room for two cars) and step inside your single-storey cottage. Exposed stone walls and wood panelling welcome you into the hall, where there’s plenty of space to store your dog walking gear. Head through to the light and bright lounge and you won’t be able to resist having a little fun on the self-playing baby grand piano. When it’s time to eat, cook up a storm in the bright and cheerful kitchen, and then share a romantic meal for two at one of the two dining areas in the kitchen or lounge. Alternatively, step outside into the garden and indulge in an al fresco feast with your sweetie as your pups run free in the enclosed space. When the day is done, you’ll find a spacious king-size bedroom calling your name. A stylish bathroom with a shower over the bath completes the layout.

Tails are sure to wag when you do the 4-mile circular hike from Falkland (1 mile) to Maspie Den. Along the way you’ll discover hidden waterfalls, bridges and caves – and if you’re lucky – the occasional deer. Back in Falkland, head to Falkland Palace, a stunning Renaissance palace that was once a retreat for Scottish kings and queens. Your pups are welcome to join you in the palace gardens.

This is an excellent cottage for a single person or a couple. The rooms are spacious enough to be very comfortable, the appliances work well, and kitchen, bathroom, and laundry are on the whole very well equipped. The village location is very quiet and has limited facilities, but is easily accessible to all the major attractions of central Fife, anRead mored close enough to arterial roads such as the A91/2 and the M90 for one to use it as a base for exploring south-eastern Scotland in general. The piano and the superb library of classic literature are added bonuses. Hide

Great location for exploring Fife. Nice cottage with history explained in the info. This has only been a let since 2024, so you get the feeling the owner is seeing how it goes a little as some areas need attention, and can understand this needs income first to fund. Bed for us was low & rather firm, but you never get it right for everyone & weRead more always take our own mattress topper thankfully. Sofa was good although with the piano in the room (which is listed for sale), the sofa/fireplace end of the room felt cramped in a large space. Lots of ancillary kitchen equipment; air fryer, griddle, bread maker & 2 coffee machines. Windows do not open, so only air flow via opening the doors. The secondary double glazing at the original front windows is good as house right on the road but it's not overly busy & the road is a 20 mph. I always check out Google maps to see exact position & was not put off. Garden areas are small & the largest bit is where the owners private room window and door are situated. Not that we saw anyone there, just a bit odd. And this could easily be a second bedroom and better access to the "secret garden". Maybe this is for the future too. Good walks in the village & handy well stocked shop in Freuchie, 3 mins drive away. In all a pleasant stay & wish the owner well in their venture. Hide
