The Wash House Cottage was a lovely cottage tucked away in a beautiful quite location of Tayport, with magnificent views of the River Tay, so relaxing to sit and watch the yaughts sail by. We booked 22nd to 29th of May, best week weather wise of the year so far. Great base for visiting, St Andrews, Broughty Ferry and Dundee. The cottage was spotlRead moreess, with lovely modern interior, with full length glass doors downstairs and in main bedroom upstairs allowing you to appreciate the outstanding views. This is a clean, well appointed two floor ,modern property in an outstanding location. We had chosen it for the proximity to the Tay River and views of the river, Broughty Ferry and Dundee. They did not disappoint. There was always something to look at on the river whether yachts or bird life. The sunsets behind Dundee at 9pm when we visited, wRead moreere spectacular and a highlight of our stay. The location is extremely quiet and surprisingly remote. Yet you are near the pretty villages of Tayport and Newport. The city of Dundee is conveniently nearby. Hide

If you are looking for absolute quiet and the serenity of the sea visible from all windows The Wash House is the perfect holiday accommodation. This super little apartment has floor to ceiling windows for full appreciation of its waterside location plus all the amenities for a comfortable stay such as plentiful hot water, comfy beds, decent wi fi, Read morewell equipped kitchen and very toasty overhead heating pads. Our friendly hostess provided very clear directions for arrival and a large private parking space was appreciated. We could happily have watched the many moods of the sea from our cosy berth all day but plentiful local buses from the main road took us to Dundee and beyond, so we hardly moved our car all holiday. We stayed at The Wash House, Tayport from 30 Dec 2025 2 Jan 2026 and unfortunately found the property to be in a very poor state of cleanliness. On arrival there was hair in the bedding, dust and hair between the wooden bed slats, and heavily stained mattress covers. There was also noticeable dust behind the TV and on window sills, including thRead moree staircase and kitchen. The kitchen chair cushions were stained. Overall, the property did not appear to have been properly cleaned prior to our arrival. As my husband has asthma, the level of dust was particularly concerning. I had to wash the bedding before we could use it. We reported the issues immediately, but no one came to inspect or address them during our stay. Given that it was New Years Eve, we had little choice but to remain. We have photos documenting the issues and were offered only 90 compensation, which we do not feel reflects the condition of the property. This was very disappointing and spoiled what should have been a relaxing break. Hide

Really loved our stay in this quiet and cosy little property. It was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed for a week's stay. But the main attraction has to be that amazing view, with the river Tay flowing just past the window (not to mention the peaceful sound of the water lapping against the wall below). Tayport itself is a small villagRead moree with a Co-op, a couple of cafes and a pub but there are lots of bigger places within easy driving distance (or a bus ride away), and wonderful walks along the coastal park or in the forest at Tentsmuir.
