The cottage is tiny, well compact, but very nice & cosy. There is very little storage room for food & wet clothes & boots. Shower over the high sided bath isnt ideal but powerful & refreshing. The garden is lovely and the location is so peaceful. We enjoyed watching the snowy owl who regularly flies by early evening and is very vocal through theRead more night. Beautiful surroundings with the stream and the wooded area at the back of the house. Our dog loved the stepping stones. Thoroughly relaxing place to spend a holiday. Hide

The cottage was clean and adequately equipped. Other comments on the shower we found to be misleading, very good strength and easy to use and you just keep the curtains inside the tub. Simples. The location was very good and quiet with everywhere we wanted to go within an hour's drive. Parking was no problem on the main straight section of the roadRead more. We ate in the Horseshoe Hotel twice including a very good Sunday evening roast but we would recommend booking, even midweek. Easily accessible via the stepping stones. We did also visit the Postgate Inn, but only for drinks but the food looked good. Hide

Lovely cottage, idyllic location. No parking at property, but not a problem. No problems with the shower leaking, just make sure you press the correct button!

Lovely cosy cottage in a great location for walking and visiting the surrounding area. Had everything you needed for a holiday home, bed was very comfortable and house kept at a nice temperature with the underfloor heating. Lovely big bath to soak in, the shower was a little tricky as shower curtain all the way around. Worried at first about the waRead moreter going everywhere but was fine once you got the hang of it. Local pubs walking distance from the cottage. Visited the Horseshoe Hotel just across the stepping stones at the bottom of the garden a couple of times and the food was amazing. Would definitely stay again if in the area. Hide

The cottage is comfortable and cosy. The pretty back garden is walled/ fenced, so safe for my dog, who is usually an escape artist. The garden gate opens onto the stepping stones over the River Esk, and the sound of the water is a constant relaxant. Especially good features are the beautiful bathroom , complete with a lovely large, deep bath. In thRead moree living room there is a log burner, which is super warm. After long days exploring the stunning countryside, and walking on the beautiful nearby beaches, the incredibly comfortable bed is a real luxury. I cant recommend Esk Cottage too much! Hide

A tucked-away, pocket-sized cottage with a lovely sunny garden. We had no problems parking nearby and having the train station in the village meant that we could leave the car behind, which we really like doing. There are lovely walks in every direction. There are lots of good options for eating out nearby. The main downside for us was the laRead moreck of storage space. The shower is also not ideal but we were careful with the water and there was always enough. Hide

The cottage is quaint and in a peaceful location by the river. Downstairs the sofa was a bit shabby. The shower over the bath was nice but the bath was extremely high to step in and out of.

This is a lovely little cottage in a peaceful location with a river just outside the back gate. However, actually locating the property itself is stressful as the directions are shockingly bad. There is no need for the detailed description to the lane where you park as sat nav takes you right there with the postcode provided. The directions stop onRead more that lane. How difficult is it to add at the top of the lane by the large white house there is a to the stepping stones sign, go through the gate to the right of the sign then through the next two gates where you will find 3 Esk Cottage We wandered aimlessly, asked two local residents and the second took us there. We know from speaking to them we werent the first person who received poor directions. There was a well stocked tea tray when we arrived with milk, biscuits, tea and some very welcome Taylors coffee bags. The kitchen and house in general were well equipped and the cottage was cosy and comfortable. We were only staying 3 nights so didnt cook but if wed have planned on cooking during our stay there is only a very small shelf to hold store cupboard items. We put one loaf of bread on it plus a small bag of cereal and it was full, additional items needed to go in a shopping bag in the small cupboard under the stairs with the vacuum cleaner, ironing board etc. The cottage is located within walking distance of two nice pubs, both serve good food, and a short drive from Whitby and other coastal and moorland areas. If we were looking to stay in this area again we would definitely consider returning Hide
