Enjoy a truly unique holiday with your loved ones at this historic folly nestled deep in the Herefordshire countryside. Built in the 1820s on the grounds of a now-demolished country house, it’s been lovingly converted into a luxurious retreat for couples and older families – and their faithful, four-legged friend. Located on the England-Wales border, there’s a world of adventure at your doorstep from the book-lover’s haven of Hay-on-Wye to the dramatic landscapes of the Black Mountains.
Drive through the country estate, past golden fields of corn and Herefordshire cattle, to this stunning tower presiding over the landscape. With five storeys and a roof terrace, there’s plenty to explore. Shrug off coats and boots and wipe down muddy paws on the ground floor, before starting your ascent. Venture up to the third floor to make that all-important cuppa after your journey. Here you’ll find a thoughtfully designed kitchen/diner with top-quality appliances and a dining table for four. Continue to the fourth floor where the lounge makes the most of far-reaching country views. Here you can sink into the large corner sofa to watch TV or just gaze out the windows. A final paddle staircase leads to the roof terrace – the perfect spot for you and your top dog to watch sunset with a glass of wine. When bedtime calls, head down to the bedrooms. Choose between a cosy king-size on the second floor and an open-plan space with fold-down bunk beds on the first floor. They share use of the ground floor family shower room. Outside, dine alfresco at a bistro table, surrounded by a wildflower meadow. This property benefits from two parking spaces, but its layout isn’t suitable for children under seven years old.
Let Fido lead the way as you explore the market town of Hay-on-Wye, where your faithful friend is welcome on the ground floor and grounds of the castle, and in many of the bookshops and eateries. Or set off to roam the natural wonders and historic sites of the Black Mountains.
