Lucky pups can stretch their legs on the expansive lawns of this peaceful cottage, or bound out on walks right from the front door. Blending traditional character with modern amenities, it''s a great place for families and two furry friends to get away from it all and explore the castles and countryside of beautiful Northumberland.

Let your hounds follow you into the hallway of the single-storey stone cottage, and hang coats and leads before stepping down into the kitchen/diner (plenty of room for water bowls here). Cooks will appreciate the facilities for cooking up hearty holiday meals, and there''s a farmhouse-style dining table that comfortably accommodates six. Relax on the sofas at the far end of the room, or head into the lounge and light the wood burner, enjoying the tranquillity of this room with its two windows and soft colours. When your mutts are asleep, head for the bedrooms, both of which enjoy views over the garden. There''s a king-size bedroom, and a family bedroom which features a double bed and bunk beds for two. They share a bathroom with a shower over the bath. Four-pawed pals will want to venture into the large, lawned garden, where humans can enjoy al fresco drinks or dining - perhaps while stargazing in the clear night skies. You can also wander over to the unfenced private lake (within the owner''s grounds) and take a stroll while admiring the resident swans.

Set on a working arable farm, the cottage is 3.5 miles from Belsay village and 9 miles from the shops, pubs and restaurants of Ponteland. Take your furry friends to explore the magnificent grounds at Belsay Hall, 4.5 miles, or the National Trust''s Wallington, where there are miles of walks through woodland and along the river.

  • 2 bedrooms – 1 double, 1 family room with 1 double bed and 1 bunk bed
  • 1 bathroom – with a shower over the bath and WC
  • Gas hob, electric oven, fridge, freezer, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine
  • Wood burner in the lounge
  • TVs with Freeview in the lounge, kitchen and 1 bedroom
  • Large garden with garden furniture
  • Off-road parking for up to 3 cars
  • Access to nearby lake (not fenced) and the owner's wider grounds for walking/dog walks
  • Guests visiting with their horses can arrange livery directly with the owner (up to 4 horses)
  • Arrival: 16:00 onwards
  • Departure: before 10:00
  • 4 dogs allowed. Additional charges may apply

One of the best cottages weve stayed at. A single storey barn conversion with big airy rooms, in a farm surrounded by walks, woods and a lake. The owners have gone to quite some length to make guests feel at home and to provide a taste of Northumberland countryside. This is well worth a visit; 10 out of 10.

We had a wonderful week at The Byre. The owner and her family are friendly and welcoming, and live across the yard so are on-hand if you need them but in no way obtrusive. The beautifully converted barn is clean, comfortable, and well-equipped. There are woods and a lake on-site to explore however, despite being just 30 mins from Newcastle, the areRead morea feels rural and peaceful. There are lots of places to visit locally (within 10 min car journey) such as the lake at Kirkharle, Bolam Country Park and Belsay Hall etc, with shops and restaurants to suit every taste in nearby Ponteland. Morpeth, Hexham, Rothbury and Cragside (to name but a few) are less than an hour drive with some glorious views to take in on the journey. There was a welcome pack on arrival with milk, bread, butter, selected preserves, tea and coffee, and (very) fresh eggs from the hens that run around the yard. The accommodation is spacious and airy even with 4 adults and 4 dogs! Along with the hens, there are also sheep that wander around in the grounds and horses in the fields, lots of birds, and bats which give an impressive aerial display in the garden at dusk. The owners dogs sometimes pop over for a visit, especially Wink who is possibly the friendliest dog in the North-East and who became a favourite playmate for one of mine (surprisingly, as she can be grumpy around other dogs), chasing each other round the spacious garden. All in all it was a wonderful, peaceful and restorative break. The cloudy weather prevented any decent stargazing, however, on a clear night I would imagine the lack of light pollution makes for some wonderful views. There is a sufficient (but not great) broadband signal, which disappointed my teenage son - he could do everything that he wanted online, it just wasn't as instantaneous as he has come to expect from inner city super-dooper fast internet. It did however make it easier to persuade him to ditch the devices and connect with us as a family playing games and exploring the area. I would heartily recommend The Byre for anyone wanting to get away from it all, yet have everything you could wish for within easy driving distance; who loves nature but also appreciates home comforts. It really was a home from home, the owner was amazing and I can't wait to book again Hide

This was the best stay away we have ever had. We were made to feel completely at home and able to walk the grounds of the farm without feeling like we were intruding. Such a beautiful setting ; sheep, horses, lambs , chickens and a sun set to die for. We will be back.

The cottage is wonderful, spotlessly clean, well equipped and very spacious, the grounds around the property are fantastic for dogs who can have plenty of off lead time exploring the woods, fields and beautiful countryside as the cottage is set well away from the roads. The owners are lovely and friendly and animal lovers which is an added bonus fRead moreor us. It was so thoughtful to have a selection of goodies available on arrival. The cottage is central to explore Northumberland and coast, we had a fabulous week and exploring Hadrians wall, nearby Belsay House, Tynemouth castle, Alnwick market, the beaches at Craster to Dunstanburgh Castle to name a few. There's some lovely farm shops, and ice cream parlours near by so you can sample the local produce., which is excellent.
