Located near the popular village of Malham, this charming cottage offers easy access to some of the most spectacular scenery in the Yorkshire Dales. Formerly part of Scalegill Mill, an historic cotton mill dating back to 1792, it’s been lovingly renovated to create a quaint and atmospheric holiday home. Four guests and one beloved pup have the run of this property, which benefits from a private courtyard and access to a shared garden and woodland walk.
From the moment you step inside, this delightful abode wraps you in comfort and charm. With cream, hand-painted cabinets, an electric AGA and granite worktops, the welcoming kitchen/diner invites lazy brunches and intimate dinners, with ample space for your pup’s food and drink bowls. Step up into the adjoining lounge where plush seating and a roaring open fire beckons you to relax after a day on the trails. Stairs lead up to the first floor, where you’ll find two double bedrooms with soft linens and lovely views across the dales. They share access to a contemporary shower room. Outside, savour al fresco breakfasts and evening meals on your private courtyard, and the property benefits from off-road parking for two cars. Cross the courtyard to stroll around a shared garden set above a river and waterfall, and amble along the woodland walk where a picnic table invites you to stop and listen to the wildlife.
A treat for man and dog alike, Malham is a small village with a choice of dog-friendly pubs and eateries – a footpath from the garden takes you straight there in around 1 mile. From here, explore three natural wonders of the Yorkshire Dales: Malham Cove, Gordale Scar and Janet’s Foss. Alternatively pick up sections of the long-distance Pennine Way, which passes through the village. For a change of scenery, venture to the market town of Skipton (10 miles) or see the cave formations at Ingleborough Cave (13.5 miles).
