For a dog-friendly holiday in Norfolk, combining natural beauty with coastal charm, stay at this lovely period property in Snettisham. It''s got bags of character and a good-sized garden where pets can run around safely. You''ll be just 3.5 miles from the largely unspoilt Snettisham Beach, which is wonderful for scenic dog walks - though you will need to keep your pet on a lead during bird nesting season (summer).

The two-bedroom brick and carrstone cottage has been recently refurbished, with lovely wooden panelling, quality furniture and plenty of tasteful artwork on the walls. A tiled hallway leads to a well-equipped kitchen at the back, which has a breakfast bar with four stools for dining. The lounge area features a Smart TV, a sound system and a welcoming open fire which tired pets will no doubt gravitate towards! Upstairs, you''ll have a beautifully presented king-size bedroom and a versatile king-size, which can be converted into a twin. Outside, the secure courtyard garden is fantastic for fair-weather breakfasts and lunches.

You''ll find plenty to do nearby - Hunstanton (4 miles) is famous for its iconic striped cliffs and family-friendly beach, where your canine friends are welcome all year round. Nearby Heacham (2 miles), famous for its lavender fields, offers the chance to explore Norfolk''s fragrant countryside - your pets are welcome to join you in the main areas of the site. At Sandringham Estate (4 miles), the royal family''s exquisite country retreat, dogs are welcome to join you on a walk in the 243-hectare Royal Parkland - and water stations for thirsty pups are available. Love pretty walks? Join the Norfolk Coast Path at Hunstanton and lap up the watery scenery as you follow along to beauty spots like Brancaster Beach (11 miles).

  • 2 bedrooms – 1 king-size and 1 king-size zip-and-link (can be made into two 2ft 6in singles upon request)
  • 2 en-suite shower rooms with WCs
  • Electric double oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and a Nespresso Vertuo coffee machine
  • Utility room with combination washer/dryer, microwave and WC
  • Open fire (first basket of logs included)
  • Smart TV in the lounge and TV in both bedrooms
  • Enclosed courtyard with table, chairs, patio heater and gas BBQ
  • Free on-street parking opposite the cottage on a first-come, first-served basis and a public car park 50 metres away
  • Please note, due to the age of the cottage, there is a low-height doorway from the kitchen to the garden
  • Shop, cafe and pub 300 metres, beach 3 miles
  • Arrival: 16:00 onwards
  • Departure: before 10:00
  • 2 dogs allowed. Additional charges may apply

This cottage is in a wonderful location, very close to local amenities including a shop and several pubs. The beach is within running distance, or a short drive away if preferred. This is a super little cottage within a 3-min walk of two pubs (which serve good food), a classy restaurant (the Old Bank) and the bakery/cafe (the Old Store), as well as the village Co-op. The weather wasn't quite with us on a couple of days (it was March!) but we were happy to hunker down and read books/watch television, dashing out for food at the Rose and Crown in the evening. I cannot recommend The Anchorage in Snettisham highly enough. The cottage was absolutely gorgeous. It was outstandingly clean and welcoming. The 'house bible' was very informative and helpful. The sliding door at the base of the stairs was hugely useful in stopping my dog from going upstairs and the downstairs utility/wc saved my poor knees going uRead morepstairs to the loo all the time after a few vinos! The beautiful lounge was not used by us, but only because we were obsessed with the outside table and chairs, under a protective roof, with a skylight and a heater - we spent every night out there just chatting and laughing! (Small, pretty, courtyard garden.)The furniture was lovely - beds were really comfy - with two good sized en-suite showers/wc in each room (lovely John Lewis towels in each en-suite) which was a real bonus along with king-sized beds (one of which can be split into two single beds) and beautiful clean smelling sheets! And Snettisham itself was so pretty and all the surrounding areas - Burnham Market, Brancaster, (the White Horse - not only a great pub but it has a lovely beachside 'bar' overlooking the marshes which seems very popular with the locals), Great Massingham, King William IV pub in Sedgeford - 5 mins drive away - Holkham (the Victoria hotel and restaurant - beautiful location) Sandringham, Norfolk Lavender Farm, The Old Barns in Deepdale, Old Hunstanton, the lovely beach at Wells-next-the-Sea, and we even went to Waitrose in Swaffham to get a few bottles of my favourite sparkling rose which was on offer(!) - and a trip to John Lewis in Norwich where we spent a ridiculous amount of money! (I have moved away from both these shops, hence the need of a visit!) And within staggering distance of The Anchorage is The Old Store for breakfast/lunch, The Queen Victoria (which we didn't actually make it to), The Rose & Crown Pub and the absolutely OUTSTANDING ......The Old Bank - the highlight of our holiday - amazing food and service. Snettisham is really very pretty, with a beautiful Grade 1 Listed 14th century Church with sheep grazing contentedly in the field in front of it! Just stunning!
