Alpha Cottage - Tenby

Tis is the same information given to the owners of the property. This came up in the list for dog friendly accommodation. I suggest that it is not and should not be advertised as such. The rear concrete yard area to this property is not dog friendly, nor the open access to No2 Alpha Cottages, which I kept blocking with a 'patio chair' , explained tRead moreo those renting No. 2 why I had blocked it to prevent my dog accessing their outdoor space, only to find it was constantly put back on the concrete raised area. The chair was light and easy to move and was intended to stop a JRT, not a human being from entering their own space. Whilst we were there, the door to the main road was also held open on the latch, (access to the property is via a door on to the main road and a shared concrete alleyway) allowing my dog to run in to the road when I opened the door from No. 1 to the shared alleyway. Simon (who had put the door on the latch, he did not say who he was or whether he had anything to do with No1, whilst standing in No. 2 outside area, barked his orders at me regarding not allowing my dog to pee on the concrete area, which I was under the impression as I had rented the property, and the concrete area came with it, and the property was advertised as dog friendly, having paid extra for the dog, that my dog could pee on it, if needed, when not out on his many walks a day. It was not stated anywhere in the booking information or in a house rules file in the property that dogs are expected to keep their legs crossed at all times and not avail themselves of the outside space. I suggest that the owner advise Simon, as he seemed to be a fixture, that barking orders at the paying guests is perhaps not the right thing to be doing to make them feel welcome or their pet welcome. The central heating was off when we arrived and continued to be off throughout our shortened stay. The house was freezing due to unseasonably cold weather. We presumed the central heating controls were behind one of the padlocked doors in the property. The house was therefore uncomfortably cold and we left early on the Tuesday rather than stay until the Friday. When I texted the number for the owner given in the arrival details, to say we had left early and why, I got no response or apology. I suggest to the owners that they give their guests access to the heating controls and responding to their texts. The bathroom is lovely, the kitchen is dreadful and needs a full refurb. I had to clean cook wear before use and what was available was of poor quality and a greater choice of pots and pans would be useful, as would a selection of carving/cooks knives. As mentioned, we could not find a 'house rules/instructions' file in the property. This is something we have found useful in all the other properties we have stayed in. It would have been useful to know of the no peeing rule for the dog, in advance. The steps up to the raised seating area in the living room caused a safety issue. My partner wears varifocals and he nearly fell down the steps a couple of times as there is no handrail and the steps are deep, depth perception is altered with varifocals. As a senior Physio, I suggest that anyone with hip or knee problems would find the steps a challenge. We found the accommodation to be noisy. We could hear the group behind us in No.2 Alpha cottages out in their outside space from the living room area and the bedroom. As the property fronts on to the main road, we could hear passers by early in the morning and late at night enjoying their night time walk back from whatever pub or dining establishment they had been to. Unfortunately, we found the property, uncomfortable, cold and noisy, not dog friendly, and very disappointing. Hide

Location within the walled town is perfect , can be noisy at night and early mornings, but earplugs worked a treat, had all the basics needed, Tenby is beautiful and has everything you would want from history, cafes, pubs, family and dog friendly, would go again, had a wonderful time.

This was a very comfortable place to stay. Beds good, bathroom excellent and living area was excellent too. Allyou needed in the kitchen was there. Would probably stay here again.

Some might say the cottage is a little bit basic and furniture dated. We were out and about so much it wasnt an issue to us. Its a brilliant location for dog friendly south beach, weekly parking in multi storey worked a treat, town and The Crown pub just a few doors down had a warm welcome and great beer. Wed happily book again.

Overall disappointed, for a 4 star rating. Cleanliness needs improvement. Advisory, byelaws prohibiting dogs from beaches exist 1st May to 30th September.
