Property code: OC-F28915

This elegant, woof-welcoming apartment is nestled in the centre of Alnwick and makes an excellent base for couples and small families. Enjoy dog walks with magnificent views of Alnwick Castle directly from your front door, or journey further afield for exhilarating coastal hikes in Craster (7 miles) or a day at the beach in Alnmouth (4.5 miles).

The first-floor apartment is tucked away behind the market square and is reached via a shared entrance and a flight of stairs. Inside, the home-away-from-home is warm and inviting, with elegant period features and rich soft furnishings. After a busy day, you and your canine buddy can unwind in the lounge/diner which is bathed in natural light thanks to the fabulous, original sash windows. Snuggle up on the sofa to watch TV or share family mealtimes at the stylish dining table. The separate kitchen has everything needed for a self-catering holiday, along with space for the dog bed and a breakfast table for informal dining. When it's time for bed, retire to one of the inviting double bedrooms. Two bathrooms complete the accommodation, one with a shower and WC, and one with a bath and WC. There is no outside space, however, The Pastures – a scenic dog-walking area behind the castle – is just 200 metres away.

Alnwick has a good range of independent shops and eateries, many of which welcome four-pawed visitors. There are some beautiful walks in and around the town, following the river or winding through ancient woodland. Northumberland has some fabulous, woof-friendly beaches, including the wide, sandy stretch at Alnmouth Bay (4.5 miles). For a wild and windy coastal hike with jaw-dropping views, let Rover lead the way from the pretty fishing village of Craster to the atmospheric ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle.

This is a lovely apartment in a great location for exploring the town and castle; we had such a good time there. It is perfect for being in the centre of things and getting a real feel for Alnwick, which is a lively and interesting place. A wide range of shops, cafes and restaurants are all just moments away; we particularly enjoyed Adam and Eve reRead morestaurant, which is open Wednesdays to Sundays - well worth a visit! You do hear the music from Harry's Bar down the road, but it stops promptly at bedtime and simply adds to the atmosphere; we did not find it disturbing at all. Sofas and beds were extremely comfortable and everything was very clean and well decorated. We were able to load and unload the car right outside and park it safely for up to 24 hours in one of several car parks nearby. We were also able to get to Lindisfarne easily from Alnwick, which was another highlight of the trip. Overall, this is an ideal apartment for a town-based holiday with excellent access to the countryside too! Hide

This apartment was clean and bright and had nice decor, particularly in the main room. The kitchen could be better equipped. The bedrooms were clean and comfortable. The location was rather off-putting and the streets on each side were noisy from early morning. The pub next door and the pub along the street were noisy at different times. The sRead morehared entrance hall and stairs were dark and narrow. It was not clear that there was a parking disc in the property. The instruction was to park on the cobbles, but there are restrictions on doing this. The property is not worth the price charged, but may be acceptable at a lower price as an urban apartment in a noisy location. Hide

This is well placed for visiting places in Northumberland. It is comfortable and full of charm. It is near to supermarkets and can recommend Carlos for its fish and chips. The weekend is slightly noisy at pub closing time but it is short lasting . The rest of the time it is really quiet. We loved staying here.

A very central apartment which unfortunately lead to be noisy in the evenings at the weekends. Music could be heard from Flowers bar until they closed.
