See the glee on Rover’s furry face when he arrives at this gorgeous holiday cottage in the Lake District. Sleeping eight guests, the exquisite, four-bedroom working farm retreat offers stylish, dog-friendly accommodation to large parties seeking to explore the western Lakes with a pup. Situated 6 miles from Whitehaven and 4 miles from Ennerdale Water, it comes with a private hot tub where you can unwind while Rover rests his weary paws.

Give Rover a good rub down after his long walk then enter the delightful stone hideaway to make the most of this special time away together. Head through to the beamed lounge to light the wood burner and sink back into the soft seating with your pal at your feet. Find your favourite programme on the Smart TV and let him doze a while after his busy day. Take him through to the kitchen, where he can warm himself beside the Aga instead, while you enjoy a cup of tea at the breakfast bar. Feed him here while the rest of your pack feasts through in the dining room. A handy utility room and a family shower room are also downstairs. As night falls, bid Rover goodnight and make your way up to the first floor of the cottage. Here you will find three double bedrooms and a twin, plus a family bathroom. Wake up to beautiful country views before heading downstairs to take your happy hound out for a stroll around the garden. Dine outside on fine days and spend some time stargazing from the hot tub. There is parking for two cars at this property.

Follow the circular 7.5-mile walk around Ennerdale Water with Rover at your heel. Venture 9 miles to the coast at Fleswick Bay, where the beach is dog friendly at any time.

My family and I had a wonderful 5 night stay at Cathow Cottage over new year. On entering the cottage we were met with a gorgeous cozy lounge area which was decorated for Xmas. We all particularly liked the seperate dining room and all being able to sit together, the kitchen had the wow factor for me and on New Years Day after following the instrucRead moretions on hand managed to make a roast dinner on the Arga (first time using one), lots of crockery, utensils on hand to use and a lovely island which was a personal favourite also. Bedrooms all lovely and the bathroom & downstairs shower room were lovely with powerful enjoyable showers. The hot tub was used every day and everyone said it was great. As mentioned in the description the cottage is on a working farm but certainly didnt affect our stay in any way and Richard the owner was always on hand if needed and very good at answering any questions asked. About 40 mins away from Keswick and Buttermere which we visited during our stay and only 10/15 mins away from Whitehaven where can get groceries if needed. Had a meal at a lovely pub New Years Eve called OHallorans and had a couple of local takeaways which were recommended also. Hide

Such a beautiful, charming cosy cottage, which oozed country living. Perfect for our Family Christmas of 3 generations, who love the outdoors. The weather was particularly kind for the full week and we experienced dry sunny days every day, which is almost impossible at this time of year, in this part of the world. I speak as a Cumbrian lass myselfRead more. The rooms were all a great size for our needs. The living room and kitchen were really special. The living room had a log burner, 2 spacious sofas for seating and definitely had the wow factor as it was all decorated for Christmas. The Dining Room seemed very grand to us with its lovely table, grandfather clock and rocking chair with another beautifully decorated tree. The kitchen I would have loved to have transported back home. It was very well laid out, and had the most welcoming Aga to cook on. There was an extra electric hob and oven as well as support, ( useful on Christmas Day, )but I loved cooking with the Aga each day. Fabulous for roasting and baking. I was in my element. The 2 bathrooms were very good. Fabulous showers and there was a bath too for those who like a soak. All rooms spotlessly clean. The bedrooms were lovely , especially the 2 main double rooms. The spacious outside lawned area which was fenced was brilliant for our 2 dogs . I would imagine the seated area in the summer would be stunning looking out at the surrounding countryside . And the hot tub was an added bonus for the family members. It was easy to get to Ennerdale and experience the walk around Ennerdale Water. Stone Circle not too far away. The Gather was a very welcoming coffee/tearoom, nearby in Ennerdale , with lovely food and drinks and local produce for sale. Fabulous candles. The Ennerdale candle( produced locally) is one of the best smelling candles I have ever smelt. The owner of Cathow Cottage, Richard, was very helpful in so many ways. So helpful getting something back to us that we had left behind. Would highly recommend if you like a quiet retreat. Hide
