Tail waggers will feel right at home in this bright, dog-friendly cottage, less than half a mile from the charming seaside village of Cushendall. The single-storey property sleeps six guests, plus two furry friends, and is close to glorious scenic walks in the beautiful Glens of Antrim: perfect for pets on sniffing patrol. Dogs are welcome on Cushendall’s small, sandy beach, while the 1,000-hectare Glengariff Forest Park (6 miles), has a splendid range of walking trails to explore.
The cottage has a lovely view, overlooking the sea in Red Bay and surrounding countryside. An open fire in a period fireplace adds a cosy touch to the lounge, with comfortable leather seating and ample space for your pets to snuggle down on their blanket. The neat kitchen/diner has all you need to rustle up a meal, and there are three inviting bedrooms: a king-size, a twin and a bunk bedroom, as well as a family bathroom. A good-size enclosed rear garden with seating, a lawn and patio is ideal for children and pets to play while you set to work on the BBQ or relax with a drink.
Take a stroll past Cushendall’s pretty painted houses before heading to the beach for a paddle and game of catch with Daisy and Fido. The village has excellent restaurants, with seafood a speciality, and you can hear traditional Irish music in the dog-friendly pub and bar. Neighbouring Waterfoot (1 mile) is a dog’s delight, with a long stretch of beach, backed by dunes, where your pets can race into the water and scamper across the sand. The beach also has a handy cafe, toilets and a shop, ideal for impromptu picnic. Glorious Glengariff offers woodland, lakes and dramatic waterfalls; dogs are welcome but please look out for wildlife.
