This super cottage set in generous gardens will delight your happy hounds, and their owners, too. Ideal for families or friends sharing, the single-storey hideaway sleeps six guests, along with three furry friends. The part-enclosed gardens are a highlight, with mature trees, perfect for doggie explorations, along with a slide and swing for younger children. Just 2 miles away is the small village of Dunkineely, while the bustling town of Donegal with its thriving market is within 10 miles.
The detached cottage is light and bright, with French windows in the roomy lounge opening onto the garden. Comfortable seating, lamps and an open fire in the stone fireplace create a welcoming space for pets and people. The impressive country kitchen/diner also has ample room for all, and there’s a handy utility room for cleaning muddy paws and boots. After a day in the fresh air, sleep soundly in one of two cosy bedrooms: a double and a room with two sets of bunk beds. There is a family wet room for all guests to share. Outside, enjoy meals round the garden table, while keeping an eye on children and four-legged guests.
Dunkineely has a shop and dog-friendly pubs where you can hear traditional Irish music. Visit the village’s ruined Old Killaghtee Church to see its historic Celtic Cross, dating from 650 AD. Head to secluded Coral Beach, either by car along a narrow road or walk the 3-mile trail to St John’s Point, with glorious sea views on all sides. Canine companions can also run free on the beach at Inver Warren, 4 miles away. With a huge expanse of golden sand and rock pools galore, this is a lovely spot for picnics and paddles.
