Couples seeking romance, comfort and endless walks with man’s best friend will love this coastal cottage. Tucked behind one of the liveliest shopping streets in Whitby, just moments from the 199 Steps and Whitby Abbey, this pet-friendly place sits right at the heart of it all. Pop Fido on the lead and enjoy a morning stroll down to the beach (0.5 miles), grabbing coffees, breakfast goodies and a treat or two for your doggo before sitting by the water. Despite its central location, the property is quiet and undisturbed, allowing two guests and one canine companion to enjoy some serious R&R throughout a long or short stay.

Set tails wagging as you step inside, noticing the original features, including beams and painted panelling that complement the contemporary styling of the place. The lounge offers an L-shaped sofa to snuggle up on with Rover neatly tucked into a nap by your feet, and the kitchen is just next door for all your mealtime needs. When the sun’s out, you can enjoy two outdoor spaces, a courtyard at the front and an enclosed garden spot. Back inside, the first floor is presented with a dressing room, a king-size bedroom and an invigorating shower room.

With the town centre on your doorstep, you won’t have to travel far to soak up the maritime history and literary culture of magnificent Whitby. Pack your tennis balls and head for West Cliff Beach (0.5 miles), finding a dog-friendly haven of beautiful golden sand where pets can play and chase tennis balls to their heart’s content. From here, let your furry friend lead the way up to Sandsend (3 miles), following the coastal Cleveland Way route up to this neighbouring beach. In the opposite direction, Robin Hood''s Bay (5.5 miles) is a top dog attraction that’s well worth a day trip.

This will be quite a long review, but it may be helpful. Pluses.. Nice and quiet and peaceful. Wonderful clean and good quality bed linen on comfortable King Size Bed. Los of hot water any time of day or night. Continual. L ovely seating outside to sit in the sunshine. Minuses.. The toilet and shower room is not upstairs. It is next to the frRead moreont door just inside, and it requires a hazardous journey to get to the toilet during the nighttime if necessary. Mind the step down to the living room from the stairs, and mind the step also down to the bedroom again after ( in the dark) Health and safety needed here There was nothing like any welcome pack when I arrived. Not even a pint of milk which, after a long journey would have been welcome. The heating was on full blast on the 1st June and both the central heating and the 'smart' tv was unfathonable. There was no shower gel left at all which is what all holiday places provide. Watch out for the dusty old cobwebs and the dead flies ( sorry but this is true) And also, outside is a lovely area but does need a lot of weeding I have never seen dandelion weeds the size of those! Really tall and very broad. Take your own good quality coffee - there was little there and dare I say it, it was a cheap brand. The view is debatable, and yes, you can see the roof tops, but...if you've seen one roof top you've seen them all. The shower is a hazard without a non slip shower mat inside on the tiled floor and is an accident waiting to happen. The kitchen is well equipped but I ate out and never used the facilities.. Large oven with all you need to cook/bake if you so wish. comfortable sofa unit and cushions, but I came across 3 or 4 spiders... ugh! I holidayed alone, and just really needed somewhere to relax at the end of the day, and I did think that the cottage was quite expensive for a four day stay. I just seem to think that a really deep clean would be a good thing ( and a new rug!) Oh, by the way, the toilet seat was wonky. This review may seem harsh, but I am pointing out what is very true. Thank you. Hide

Well what can I say about Blackburn retreat absolutely wonderful!! This is our second visit here for one week. The cottage is fantastic! Charles and Gemma have thought of every little detail to make it feel home from. The facilities are second to none! Comfortable bed, with lovely, quality linen. The bedroom looking down over all the cottage gardenRead mores which is picture perfect. Even though you are in prime position of the bustling cobbled streets of Whitby (literally a stones through) the terrace is so peaceful and quaint- a wonderful sun trap if you are lucky to get the weather as we did the terrace is also secure, and has rattan garden furniture to enjoy. The Kitchen is to a very high spec with a Smeg range oven, and matching crockery and glasses. The Sitting room is very comfortable to relax after a day of exploring, again all furnished to a high spec. Bathroom has a very generous size shower, that is extremely powerful, with endless hot water. The best thing it is pet friendly!! Which is a massive must for us. It is so refreshing to stay in pet friendly accommodation that is so clean, and well maintained! Blackburn is a hidden gem, and would be a shame not to share so others can enjoy. If you are considering booking this old fishermans cottage, do it!! you wont be disappointed. Hide

We stayed here for Christmas. The cottage was lovely, right in the heart of Whitby. There are quite a few steps leading to the cottage so not good for anyone with mobility issues. Parking was quite expensive, cost just over 40 for the 4 days we stayed. The ceilings and doorways are very low which was a problem for my partner as he is 6 ft. It was vRead moreery well equipped, toilet roll, kitchen roll, w/ip liquid etc. On arrival there was a bottle of Prosecco, cake, biscuits and tea bags. There was a booklet with information about the cottage and Whitby. I think it would be good if the owner wrote a little bit about the history of the cottage as I would have found that interesting. This is a very pretty cottage in the centre of the town but also very quiet. There are a lot of steps to it so would not suit someone with mobility issues, and you have to take your luggage quite a way from the carpark. However well worth it once you get there.
