Set tails wagging with an adventure just outside Bedale, North Yorkshire. You’ll be surrounded by Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and national parks: this is a real hikers’ paradise. The property itself is a cute stone cottage which has room for a small family and their loyal canine companion.

Step into the cottage and leave your boots on the porch. The ground floor is mostly taken up by a spacious lounge/diner, a lovely airy space that honours the building’s history with exposed beams and a multifuel wood burner. There’s also a kitchenette. Head upstairs for the two bedrooms, a double and a single, both simply decorated and wonderfully comfortable. You’ll have a family bathroom with a shower and a bath, so you can enjoy a deep soak after a long walk. The property has a garden, enclosed by a wall and accessed by a shared path. You’ll need to accompany your dog there, and when you arrive, it’s a lovely spot with a dining area, and contrasting gravel and shrubs.

You’ll have plenty of options for walking, cycling and exploring the natural wonders of Yorkshire. Highlights include Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, 17.5 miles, North York Moors National Park, 22 miles, and Yorkshire Dales National Park, 10 miles, so every day you can put your best paw forward. If you’re feeling a little sleepy after all your adventures and don’t want to cook, Bedale (3.5 miles) has plenty of dog-friendly eateries, or you can visit Knayton (16.5 miles) where there’s a pub with a menu for humans and a menu for dogs.

Wren Cottage was a lovely place to stay - very comfortable, clean and exceptionally well equipped. There were were welcome additional features such as the sensor lights on the stairs and in the bathroom. Just a pity the back door doesn't open directly on to the garden but that wasn't really a problem. There was easy access to various places to visiRead moret and I would definitely book again. Hide

Ideally situated cottage for visiting all the places we wished to visit during our stay. The cottage is very well equipped, with virtually everything you would need and more besides. There is also a lovely welcome pack waiting for you on arrival. The beds were comfortable and linen of good quality. All Freeview channels on the TV are there, but onlRead morey Iplayer and ITVX seemed to work during our stay. You can watch Netflix only if youre prepared to log in using your own account and remember to log out before you leave. The parking space directly in front of the cottage is a little tight, especially if you have a big car, you have to reverse in off the main road, making sure not to hit a neighbours parked car as you go. A workman parked too far over one morning, blocking our exit. The garden at the rear is nicely set out. We didnt use due to it being March. However, there is a working farm directly behind the garden, which contains sheep. The cottage does not have a boiler, heating is provided by electric heaters, with none in the kitchen which made it a little chilly. There are a couple of portable heaters provided though. Hot water is from an immersion heater, so you have to remember to turn it on, if you want hot water. The additional radiators only work if you get a roaring fire going on the multi fuel burner and keep it going. You are expected to buy your own fuel for this to work. We did enjoy our stay and if we wanted to visit the same area again, we would be happy to stay at Wren Cottage. Were not sure we would go in the depths of winter though, due to the heating situation.
