This coastal bolthole on the outskirts of St Austell provides a stylish base for you and your canine buddies to explore Cornwall’s south coast, with nearby highlights including the pretty fishing village of Mevagissey (4.5 miles) and the up-market resort of Fowey (10 miles). Many of the beaches along this stretch of coastline welcome woofers all year and provide direct access to the South West Coast Path.
Enter the cottage via the boot room, where you can store dog-walking gear, and head into the impressive kitchen/diner. Spend time here, trying new recipes and sharing mealtimes at the dining table. French doors lead to the lounge, with a large window framing countryside views and a cosy wood burner setting the scene – the perfect place to snuggle up after a dog walk. There’s also a desk for writing or catching up on emails. The three bedrooms, all with rural views, are upstairs. One of the bedrooms has an en-suite shower room, and there’s also a family bathroom. The enclosed, south-facing terrace is a real suntrap, and has furniture for al fresco dining and a swinging egg chair for ultimate relaxation. There’s also a garden to the rear, again with outdoor furniture, along with a lawn where you four-legged pals can play.
There are some fantastic woof-friendly beaches near St Austell, including Par Sands (7 miles) which welcomes hounds all year. This wide, sandy beach provides ample space for a game of fetch, followed by a roam around the dunes. Enjoy a day trip to the preserved Georgian port of Charlestown (2 miles), or take a stroll with the pups around Mevagissey. Woof-friendly attractions within 5 miles include The Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project (dogs are welcome to explore the footpaths throughout the grounds, although aren’t permitted in the biomes).
