Beach walks and doggie paddles are within easy reach of this stylish cottage on the Northumberland coast. Sleeping six plus a pair of four-pawed pals, the property’s open-plan layout and enclosed garden mean everyone can find their own space or enjoy time together.
This striking semi-detached property welcomes guests in through a porch that’s the ideal spot for dog leads and outdoor gear. Beyond, there’s an open-plan living area with a cosy lounge where you can unwind before the wood burner with Fido and FiFi at your feet; switch on the Smart TV for family movie nights or spread out the maps and plan your next day’s adventure. To the rear, the kitchen has everything you’ll need to prepare tasty meals while the dining suite is in the adjacent conservatory, which has a door onto the wrap-around patio and garden. A utility room and contemporary bathroom complete the ground floor layout. When your day is done, settle the dogs and head upstairs where you’ll find three inviting bedrooms. One has a super-king-size bed and views towards the Cheviot Hills, one has a king-size bed and the third has a double bed and views across the village green. A shower room adds convenience for all. Dry stone walls and the village green add kerb appeal to the front of your holiday home. At the rear, a patio with picnic-style seating wraps around the conservatory and has steps up to an enclosed lawn where the dogs can roll on the grass while you gaze across the neighbouring farmland.
Stroll 200 metres to Newton-by-the-Sea’s friendly local pub where pets are welcomed with brimming water bowls and even their own range of doggie beers. For a slightly longer walk, head to Low Newton (0.5 miles), an ancient fishing hamlet with a microbrewery and a sandy beach where you can explore rock pools while your pets paddle in the shallows. At the far end of Embleton Bay, you’ll see the skeletal ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle, a walk of around 5 miles. Alternatively, follow the Northumberland Coast Path north around Newton Point to Football Hole Beach, a small but beautiful bay of pale sand surrounded by dunes where you can watch for wildlife – seals, seabirds and, occasionally, dolphins put in an appearance here.
