Nestled on a quiet lane in the popular seaside town of Wells-next-the-Sea, this historic cottage is a magical coastal retreat. Sleeping three people and welcoming one beloved pup, this cute and cosy abode is ideal for a romantic getaway or a family-friendly break. After days of sniffing out adventure around the harbour and scampering on sandy beaches, return here for summer nights in the garden and winter evenings snuggled around the wood burner.
Steeped in history, this 300-year-old cottage was once part of a warehouse, which was converted in 1816 to house newlywed railway construction workers. Beautifully renovated, it blends original period features with contemporary decor for a light and airy feel. Look carefully at the historic artefacts on the wall, commemorating the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II when the property’s owner, Lady Glenconner, was a maid of honour. Get cosy in the inviting lounge, post-walkies, your pup curled up in front of the wood burner, and prepare tasty treats for all in the galley-style kitchen. Dine inside or out with a table in the extension bathed in light from a skylight above, or a bistro table in the courtyard garden. Upstairs, two welcoming bedrooms await along with a family shower room.
Let your pup feel the wind in his fur and sand beneath his paws on the wonderful stretch of beach between Wells-next-the-Sea and Holkham. Once you’ve passed the first 200 metres by the beach huts, your pup can play in the sand freely; there’s a lovely circular walk between Wells and Holkham, along the beach and back via the pine woods. Holkham Estate also welcomes dogs on leads in the grounds and courtyard cafe, while the pub at the entrance will welcome your entire pack with a treat or two.
