Enjoy a big group getaway at this homely farmhouse in the heart of the Exmoor National Park. Surrounded by countryside, it offers the warmest of welcomes for nine guests and a trio of four-legged friends. You could discover a different walk every day too – the house is set within 385 acres, so there’s plenty to see from the doorstep including, less than half a mile away, the ancient clapper bridge at Tarr Steps, the longest of its kind in Britain.

Laid-back living is the byword at this family-friendly homestead. Step into the generous entrance hallway and you’ll get a sense of the easy-going stay you can expect here. There’s space for everyone to share self-catering duties in the farmhouse-style kitchen/diner, and a second dining suite in the cosy lounge where you’ll also be able to stretch out on comfortable seating, watch TV, enjoy garden views and warm paws and toes by the wood burner. A lower-level snug with a sofa and a second TV is ideal for break-away groups or, perhaps, for dogs to sleep undisturbed; a utility room and a shower room complete the convenience of the ground floor. Two separate staircases lead to the first floor, where there’s a choice of traditionally styled bedrooms to suit every party''s make-up. These include a double bedroom with an en-suite shower room, a further double, a king, a twin and a single bedroom. Surrounded by far-reaching countryside views, the large, enclosed garden has a lawn alongside mature planting, hedges and trees that children and pets will love to explore. Enjoy a BBQ after a stroll to the nearby lake – reached via a neighbouring shared lawn – and you’ll really appreciate your ‘away from it all’ location.

Less than 6 miles away, the lively market town of Dulverton sits on the banks of the River Barle and is home to a fine selection of independent shops, tearooms, pubs and restaurants. Work up an appetite first with a walk in nearby Burridge Wood, where the rivers Barle and Exe meet. Alternatively, you can try a change of terrain – and a range of water sports – at the 530-acre Wimbleball Lake, 9.5 miles from your holiday home.
