Enjoy life at the ocean’s edge with a stay at this fabulous family home. Fashionably furnished and full of light, it boasts four double bedrooms and a gorgeous garden, with dog-friendly Mawgan Porth just half a mile downhill.
Located on the cliff-side and surrounded by trees, this drool-inducing des res impresses from the outset. Leave your shoes and dog leads in the spacious hallway and you’ll feel immediately at home; this is a place where a party of eight and their pet can really unwind. Dual-aspect windows in the sitting room offer fine views of the garden and glimpses of the sea; when it’s time to draw the curtains there are two sofas, a large loveseat and Smart TV to induce a sense of calm. On the other side of the hallway, the dining room comfortably accommodates your whole party for companionable mealtimes. Fido can stretch out at your feet as your eat, and it’s only a few steps into the kitchen when he’s ready to devour his own dinner. A handy utility room and cloakroom are located off the hallway, offering laundry facilities, storage space and a place to hang wetsuits and outdoor gear. Dog-tired after an active day? Upstairs, the four airy bedrooms each have double beds and peaceful colour palettes. There are two separate bathrooms on this floor – one with a shower cubicle and the other with a bath with a shower above. Outside, a terrace to the front of the property has a large table and benches so you can enjoy bay views along with alfresco food and drinks. Across the lawn there’s a BBQ, firepit and, to wash sandy toes and paws, a hot outside shower.
Nine miles from Padstow and 5 miles from Newquay on the rugged north Cornwall coast, Mawgan Porth has west-facing sands which are a favourite for surfers and rock pool explorers. The South West Coastal Path passes through the village. Stroll a mile north and you’ll reach the legendary Bedruthan Steps; continue on and you’ll arrive at Trevose Head (8 miles), with its distinctive white lighthouse. En route, Constantine Bay (6 miles) is a true gem: the small village is surrounded by countryside and, on its western edge, a sweeping arc of golden sand that’s backed by dunes and is dog-friendly.
