Romance is in the air at this rural couple’s retreat. Enjoy cosy, cottage-style interiors, a pretty patio garden and countryside walks with a duo of doggie loved-ones.
Pretty as a picture, this charming country lodge sits within peaceful grounds close to the heart of historic Debenham. Together-time is the focus for your stay here, the spacious open-plan living space setting the scene for companionable and cosy nights curled up on the sofa as the dogs snooze before the wood burner. They’ll be wide awake, of course, the moment you step into the kitchen area, ever-hopeful of a tasty treat, and whether you eat at the dining table or out on the patio, they’re sure to remain close to heel. When bedtime beckons, settle the dogs then escape to the calm of your king-size room, which has plenty of storage space to make you feel fully at home. There’s a similarly luxurious feel to the shower room, where a double walk-in shower will kick-start your morning. Your rural idyll extends into an enclosed garden area where you’ll find patio seating and a BBQ – don’t forget an extra sausage or two for those faithful friends.
Debenham sits between Framlingham (8.5 miles) and Stowmarket (10 miles) in mid Suffolk. The village takes its name from the River Deben which rises close by and flows out to sea at Felixstowe, 30 miles south. Wander around and you’ll see a host of historic buildings and olde-worlde charm, but the village has a wealth, too, of local stores, hostelries and take-aways to make light work of your self-catering stay. Alternatively, shop and step back in time in Framlingham – dogs are welcome in the grounds of the ancient ‘castle on the hill’ here. A wander around Woodbridge (13 miles) will get their tails wagging too – sniff out the independent stores, cafes, bars and restaurants along The Thoroughfare and around Market Hill, or enjoy a stroll beside the river where the ancient Tide Mill is one of only a handful in the world still producing flour regularly.
