We really enjoyed our holiday at Bowjy cottage. There was the bonus of great weather which meant the hot tub had plenty of use. The house was immaculate throughout and well equipped. All rooms are very stylishly decorated and furnished. Looe is 15 minutes drive away and the north coast 50 minutes. he building itself is lovely set in spacious grounds and is very peaceful. The bedrooms are of a generous size with plenty of hanging space. A small welcome hamper was provided that was a nice touch. However, the property has some serious issues that need addressing and we are quite shocked that Holliday Cottages have allowed the property to beRead more rented in this condition. When we arrived the bedrooms were freezing and the hot tub similar, we tried to contact the named people on the list provided by Holliday Cottages with no success. Eventually the caretaker did contact us on the same day and arranged to come across and take a look at the problem. We had a meal booked so could not hang around to meet her but when we returned the bedrooms were warming up, so thank you. But why, when someone is dropping off fresh milk and the welcome products can they not check the property and ensure it is warm and welcoming. The property photos are certainly from a period when first entering the rental market. Since then the property has settled that leaves cracks and plasterboard nails exposed. The property has obviously been used quite a lot, so a number of scrapes and scuffs are visible and as such the property needs re-decorating. The kitchen the oven is disgusting, we appreciate the dirty state was probably due to a number of previous guests, however Holliday Cottages and/or the owner have a duty of care top provide a quality product. This issue is easily resolved by professionally cleaning the oven 2 or 3 times a year, it does not cost much. The same must be said of the BBQ. The oven trays are also disgusting and I personally cleaned a half of one to demonstrate that they could be presented in a cleaner state without a lot of effort. The pans are stacked in one cupboard but there is plenty of cupboard space to store them in a better manner, the same with the utensils that are just thrown into two draws. This is not very appealing or making a good impression. The property cleanliness is also disappointing in that cobwebs are evident above the master bed, lay down, look up, cobwebs - disgusting they are also other cobwebs in most rooms. The lamp by the master bed is filthy, someone wrote YUK on the shade and we agree, totally unacceptable. When was the property last cleaned and polished - dust everywhere! Not a clean window in sight, they were all dirty inside and outside. For goodness sake get a window cleaner once a month. Why provide things that do not work? The remote control for the upstairs tv works intermittently and you have to be standing two feet away from the tv, what use it that. The remote in the master bedroom had no batteries, the remote in the bedroom next door did not work at all. The mirrors in the same two bedrooms were inoperable, one would not turn off while the other did not work at all. The shower in the family bathroom needs looking at, we stopped using this because on the first time using the shower it started to flood the bathroom floor. We note speakers in the ceiling in all rooms but no feature to use them? We have rented a number of properties with fires and on all occasions a minimum of one load of wood was made available to use, why not at this property? It should be noted in the description that you need to provide your own wood. A number of outside lights are not working. The sofa in the main area is so uncomfortable and so low, when you drop down to sit be careful or a wooden support under the flimsy cushion may give you a bruised bottom. The cushions/pillows are also past their best (stuffing wise) and are quite dirty and as a minimum need washing. This area could also do with some small tables to place drinks on when sitting on the uncomforable sofas, maybe a couple of throws to use when it gets a little chilly at night and you have no wood for the fire! The pool table is a nice touch, but for goodness sake provide some chalk for the cues, how much would that cost! The patio doors as highlighted in previous reviews remain an issue and they can be quite challenging to lock. Is it such an issue to fix them properly? Also expressed in previous reviews that the mattresses on the beds could do with changing and we agree. We appreciate that April is early in the year, just coming out of winter and as such the outside area may be a little untidy and not up to scratch. But we booked this property in February so you knew we were coming. The weather forecast was extremely favorable and did not let us down. It is a shame we could not say the same for the outside entertainment area. It was absolutely filthy, the table and chairs full of dust, muck and bird droppings, the BBQ was disgusting, even the outside sink was awful. The entire area needs a big clean as it is disgustingly bad. The patio furniture was non existent - where is it? The weather forecast was good. The grass should have been cut prior to our arrival, from the look I would say that it had not been cut for at least two weeks prior to our arrival as the dandelions had flowered and the seed stalks plain to see on our arrival! Who on earth thought the entrance gate was a good idea. It opens outward onto the road, I appreciate the road is narrow as per many country roads, but twice a car had to break to avoid a collision when we were exiting the property as the gate was blocking the road. What is astonishing is that when the property was build they allowed for an electronic sliding gate, why not finish it or at least put in a manual sliding gate for safety reasons. Did Holliday Cottages ever undertake a risk assessment? I appreciate this review sets the property in a bad light, but if the issues highligthed were to be addressed I would expect the property could receive 5 star reviews. As it is I think a lot of negative reviews will be forthcoming during the rental season. I have not left such a negative review on any property we have rented previously, however, we were so disappointed with this property issues have to be raised. I think a management team or person from Holliday Cottages not linked to the property should pay a visit to the property and see if they can challenge my review. This review will also be left on Trustpilot so that photos can be attached to support the many of the issues detailed above. Hide

The house is beautiful however we had issues with the boiler and no water to the property because neighbours were doing work to their premises and no notice was given. We made contact a few times during our stay, to have these issues corrected, the manager was very apologetic but I was disappointed that we were not offered some kind of reimbursemenRead moret as it had a huge impact on our stay which was not cheap!. We also was not made aware on booking that the BBQ area was out of season and there would not be any gas bottle left for us. The heating in the house was uncontrollable, one bedroom had a constant temperature of 26, making it an uncomfortable sleep. We also had a the kitchen tap leaking constantly, and one of the dining chairs had a very wobbly leg which we did report and hopefully is sorted now. The other issue we had is that the bins were full on arrival and was not emptied during our stay, so wildlife were ripping bags open towards the end of our week. It has to be said the place and area are beautiful, but with all the issues we had we felt very let down. Hide

Nice property in relation to the house itself, however we had multiple issues on our stay as the hot water/heating went off 2 days on 2 nights, we had to boil kettles, hot tub also no power when we went to use it. Really important milestone weekend ruined.

Had a great time at the Bowjy property with friends for my partners birthday, we even took a Saturday stroll to the sportsmans hotel pub where we had a lovely afternoon, 45 minute walk and a short taxi ride back. Finished off in the hot tub Great house and great location, perfect with friends.

This cottage has so much potential, in its current condition it does not deserve it's price tag. There are issues which the owner needs to address and rectify. The outdoor furniture is does not compare to the photos, it is cheap plastic garden set, there is no outdoor dining facilities for the outdoor kitchen as advertised in the photos. There Read moreare two sets of bifold doors both with issues, we were advised by the property maintenance manager this would be rectified while we were there this was not the case. in the furniture is for show and offers little comfort, it is low to the floor and our older relatives struggled to get up from the sofa. The property is very nice, a great place to stay, and plenty of room inside and out. However the owner should let you know of known issues before your stay.
