This cute cottage in Whitby makes a fantastic bolthole for you and your favourite human and hound. The cottage enjoys a tucked-away location on a quiet lane, yet close to the town’s bustling harbour. You’ll be close to the start of the infamous 199 steps, leading you to some fantastic coastal walks. The paw-friendly Tate Hill Beach is also less than 200 metres away. In the evening, snuggle up on the sofa to watch TV or listen to music on the record player.

The cottage is arranged across one level and has a home-away-from-home vibe, with comfortable soft furnishings and pretty accessories. The open-plan lounge is full of character and has a gorgeous ornamental fireplace. Unwind on the sofa after a day of adventure, with Fido curled up on the fluffy rug, or enjoy a dinner for two at the drop-leaf dining table. In one corner, you’ll find a cleverly designed ‘kitchen in a cupboard’, with everything you need to whip up light meals. When it’s time for bed, retire to the double bedroom with its elegant metal bed frame. A stylish shower room completes the property. There is no outside space with the cottage, but with the beach and cliff-top paths on your doorstep, you’ll find plenty of places for the woofer to stretch their legs.

A visit to Whitby isn’t complete without a visit to Whitby Abbey. Let your hairy sidekick lead the way up the iconic 199 steps, to admire the stunning St Mary’s Church and explore the evocative ruins of the abbey. From here, you can join the coast path which leads to the idyllic fishing village of Robin Hood’s Bay (7 miles), with its picturesque fishermen’s cottages and cosy pub. The beach here welcomes woofers all year and is also a great spot for fossil hunting.

Great little cottage, centrally located in easy reach of all amenities. Surrounding areas is very rich in history. Also great location for trips to surrounding destinations like Robin hood bay and Staithes. Carparking can be an issue in town but I had no issue parking at the Abbey carpark in easy walking distance.

I note from previous comments in the visitor book that there were some adverse comments from a disabled visitor, this cottage is quirky, quaint and cosy but definitely not suitable for people with mobility issues.

Good location, quiet area. Bit dingy but to be expected down an alley. Tv and wifi good and shower nice and hot. Could do with some modernisation, a good redec and a proper kitchen. Main downside for us was the kitchen in a cupboard. It really doesn't smell good as you have all the old cooking smells clinging on to everything then being shut in. ARead more small functional kitchen would be much nicer. Overall had a good stay. Hide

This is my second stay in the last couple of months. It's a great location near the 199 steps for the east pier & for walking along the beach or cliff top to Saltwick Bay, Robin Hood's Bay & Scarborough which I've done many times.

Excellent cottage as its just behind the cobbled Church Street & near the 199 steps which is handy to view the town & harbour. The Abbey, St Marys Church & Cemetery are all worth a visit at the top. The coastal path starts nearby where you can walk down to Robin Hoods Bay & beyond. The cottage is all on one level so no tiresome stairs to climb its Read morejust what you need especially if you are in later life save the walking up steps for the 199. TV & Wi-Fi are excellent, phone reception was better by the front door. Top marks Hide
