This bright, two-bedroom property in Shaldon, South Devon, overlooks the village green and is perfect for couples wanting a comfortable getaway or equally ideal for couples, friends or small family looking for a fun-filled holiday. Shaldon is a quaint fishing village situated on the Teign Estuary. It’s a relaxing place for a stroll with its narrow winding streets, independent shops, and fine seafood restaurants. Shaldon Beach is 500 metres from the property and is ideal for swimming, sailing, and rock pooling. For a walk in nature, head 0.5 miles to the Botanical Gardens, or get up close to meerkats, civets, and lemurs at the Shaldon Wildlife Trust, 1 mile away.

Neat in size, this pretty cottage has plenty of character. The lounge is blessed with a beautiful bay window and elegant drapes, and the charm of this room might mean you just want to curl up on the leather sofa with a film or book. Extra touches include plump cushions on the armchairs, soft throws, and a rug. A dining table with seating for four people overlooks the lounge and off from here is a compact kitchen equipped with all the appliances you’ll need for a comfortable stay. A steep wooden staircase leads from the lounge to the first floor where the bedrooms are located. The double bedroom is light and airy and overlooks the green, while the second bedroom is a smaller double with a clear space to one side and skylight. A compact family bathroom is also on this floor.

Back on ground level, step through the front door out onto the patio. Overlooked by the village green, while away the hours watching the locals playing bowls on the green or simply sit and chat at the outdoor table.

Compass Cottage is lovely set in a really convenient position within the village of Shaldon. Parking was a bit of a problem, I parked along the side of the bowling green and came away with a scraped car. I loved Shaldon so laid back (in May) Teignmouth a short ferry ride away. I would love to go back!

Compass cottage is a perfect place to stay in the heart of the village. The cottage has everything you need, cosy and nicely decorated throughout in a fantastic location. We had a fantastic weeks stay so much so we have booked again for later in the year already! Lovely touch of welcome flowers and milk.
