Escape to the country with your nearest and dearest in this stunning cottage overlooking the Yorkshire Dales. Sleeping ten guests and two canine companions, it’s a great base for large families and groups of friends. The cottage is set in the chocolate-box village of Muker, which lies on the paths of the Pennine Way and the Coast-to-Coast Walk. After a hike with the hounds, refuel in one of the village’s cosy pubs or return to the cottage to snuggle by the wood burner.
Enter the traditional stone cottage into the hallway, where you can store your muddy boots and dog leads. On this floor is the first of the five bedrooms and, like the others, it has its own individual theme. A flight of stairs leads to another bedroom, before heading up to the main living area. This light and bright area is the hub of the home, with a choice of comfortable seating, a cosy wood burner for the hounds to doze besides, and a magnificent oak dining table for hosting dinner parties and celebrations. A separate flight of stairs leads back downstairs to two more bedrooms and a family bathroom. From here, you can access the final, ground-floor bedroom. To the rear of the property is a small patio overlooking the village green, where you and the woofers can sit and watch the world go by.
If you’re visiting between May and July, you must take a stroll through the village’s iconic hay meadows. There’s a beautiful route which takes you through the meadows to nearby Keld (3.5 miles), passing four spectacular waterfalls en route. Further afield, the beauty spot of Aysgarth Falls (10 miles) makes a lovely doggy day out. Picnic on the grassy banks overlooking the tiered river, before taking a wander through the surrounding woodlands.
