Let your pup dip his paws into the South Devon sand when you stay at this retreat in charming Brixham. Sleeping four guests and suited to couples or small families, the two-bedroom holiday home is set near the harbour where it enjoys astounding views out over the town and coastline. Shops and eateries are scattered around the quay, just 500 metres from your base, while dog-friendly Churston Woods and Cove, which will keep tails wagging, are just over 2 miles away.

Let yourselves in by accompanying your pet down the garden steps and be greeted by an airy, reverse-level holiday home. Head up to the first floor to make the most of the incredible views and rest weary paws in front of a crackling wood burner in the lounge/diner. Feed your furry friend through in the kitchen, which has a vaulted window and skylights. Serve your own meal up at the table in the lounge/diner and then enjoy a little TV. There is a dog crate in here where your contented canine can sleep at night. When it's time to rest human eyes, head down to the ground floor and choose from a super-king-size bed that can be converted to twins on request, and a cosy twin room. Serving the bedrooms is a well-appointed shower room. Take your chum out with you to enjoy the sea air and views to the front of the property on sunny mornings, or unwind outside in the terraced garden together – the perfect spot for a glass of something special.

Stroll 1 mile to St Mary’s Bay, which is dog-friendly all year round and where you can pick up the South West Coast Path. Plan a day trip to Dartmouth, taking the dog-friendly ferry across the estuary, and visit the National Trust’s Little Dartmouth and Gallants Bower (7 miles) where pups are very welcome.
