A splendid three-storey house in the heart of historic Whitby is perfect for a family celebration or gathering of friends, with room for eight guests and two dogs. One of the four large bedrooms has a view of Whitby Abbey’s spectral ruins but there’s nothing remotely spooky about this beautifully furnished and welcoming property. Bars and restaurants are within a 300-metre stroll, while Whitby Harbour and beaches are just a 0.5-mile walk away. The Cleveland Heritage Coast and glorious North Yorks Moors, both on the doorstep, offer great walks for you and your furry friends to enjoy together.
A gorgeous chandelier and sumptuous sofas piled with cushions make the spacious lounge a luxurious retreat after a great day out. Join your tail-waggers in snuggling up before the electric fire set in a pretty fireplace. The dining room and kitchen are beautifully presented sociable spaces. On the first floor are two lovely king-size bedrooms with sleigh beds, while the second floor houses two further bedrooms: one twin and a king-size with a fine view of the abbey. French doors from the contemporary kitchen open onto a paved courtyard with two comfortable seating areas, where faithful hounds can stretch their legs, and humans can relax in the glorious hot tub.
Even the most energetic pets will be put to the test on the climb up the famous 199 steps to St Mary’s, the parish church of Whitby. Explore this beautiful interior - dogs are welcome - before visiting the abbey ruins, said to have inspired Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Tate Hill, just below the abbey, is a small year-round dog-friendly beach, ideal for canine fun. Salty sea dogs are also welcome aboard on a 25-minute voyage around the Whitby coastline aboard the appropriately named Bark Endeavour, an authentic replica of the ship sailed by Captain Cook on his 1768 expedition.
