Part of a substantial 17th-century longhouse, this thoughtfully modernised thatched property promises an idyllic couple’s stay in the Devon countryside. The romantic interior includes a beautiful bedroom with a balcony, and is complemented by landscaped grounds plus a choice of patio areas, one of which has a hot tub.
This gorgeous cottage annexe provides the perfect country bolthole for a couple and up to two canine companions. Honey-hued ceiling beams and a spiral staircase are among the features in the ground-floor lounge/diner, which has French doors onto the private patio area. Snuggle up on the sofa while the dogs dream about their busy day – a wood burner-style electric heater will keep paws and toes toasty. The creamy colour palette continues in the light, bright galley kitchen, and a contemporary bathroom with both a bath and shower completes the ground floor layout. When it’s time to sleep, climb the spiral staircase up to an open-plan super-king-size bedroom where there’s plenty of space to relax; open the French doors onto a private balcony for countryside views. Guests here have access to skilfully landscaped grounds and two patio areas. The first has a smart patio table and chairs while the second – accessed via French doors from the lounge – is more private and furnished with a hot tub, BBQ and further seating. Make the most of the secluded location and bathe beneath the stars while the pups stretch out on the patio beside you.
The market town of Holsworthy, 7.5 miles, has a great range of shops, cafes and restaurants, as well as a pannier market on Wednesdays. Picturesque and traffic-free, Clovelly is just 10 miles away and very pet-friendly. The cobbled walk down to the quay (and back up!) will test your fitness; close by Clovelly Court Gardens welcomes dogs and, on a fine day, offers glorious glimpses of the island of Lundy. Further south and just into the neighbouring county of Cornwall, Bude (15 miles) has endless beaches, many of which are dog-friendly. Walk the South West Coast Path here, or stroll alongside the town’s canals so Fido can sniff out a different watery world.
